The legend of Sir Edmund Hillary

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 23, 2004 09:59 PM

I promised myself I’d be a Clinton-free zone for the summer, but Bill Clinton’s resurrection of Hillary’s pathological lie about how she was named is too rich to pass up. From ABC News Online (via C-log):

Bill Clinton’s autobiography “My Life” has been raising eyebrows in New Zealand amid rumblings the former US president has been less than truthful about the mountainous origins of his wife’s name.

Mr Clinton’s claim that Hillary was named in honour of Sir Edmund Hillary, the New Zealander who conquered Mount Everest, has created more interest here than the former president’s relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

On several visits to New Zealand during his time in office, the president referred to Sir Edmund as “the second favourite Hillary in our household”, while Hillary herself has attributed her moniker to the mountaineer.

There is even an after dinner joke here that goes: “What do Bill Clinton and New Zealand have in common? They both owe their reputations to Hillary.”

But the story has a fundamental problem: Edmund Hillary reached Everest’s peak on May 29, 1953, nearly seven years after the infant Hillary arrived in the world.

Yes, and did you know that my parents named me after Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan?

That’s common knowledge. In fact, I’ve known that for over thirty years.

Should we be lamenting the fact that Clinton’s book is full of lies? That is this man’s legacy, along with Monica and debasing the office of the Presidency.

Watching President Reagan’s funeral, all I could think is there is man we can be proud of, and he was proud to be an American. The same could not be said about Slick Willy.

Bill was’t lying, the righties are guilty of revisionist history. Now, how they changed my grandmothers world book encylopedias printed in the mid seventies to comfirm their lie is another question altogether.

The casualness of this type of lying is what is so disturbing, as if they themselves can’t distinguish the truth any more. The sad result is that calls into question everything that they say on any subject. Afterall, how is one to know what is [pun intended] and what isn’t?

Lord Hee-Haw and his wife are Nacissistic psychopaths. They have an absolute need that attention be focused upon themselves at all times. When this is not possible, as during the funeral of President Reagan, they enter this semi-unconscious state. Several who observed this said it was the first time they slept together in years. The habitual lying, even when there is no rationale, is consistent with the psychopathic personality.

This is just plain bizarre. The fact that Hillary summited Everest years before Bill’s wife was born is not new news. They’ve been called on it for (at least) several years.

What would possess him to include that in his book. He has to know that it’s not true. If you’re going to lie, at least lie about things that aren’t so easy to disprove…

No doubt as we speak, there is some liberal historian out there rewriting the ascent of Mt. Everest to fit the Senator’s “facts.”

What I find most interesting in the few (as few as possible) excerpts I’ve read in my local liberal newspaper is how bad he makes himself look when he is trying to make himself look good.

In the story on Waco, he apparently says that when Janet Reno came to him for approval to go in, he disagreed with her but finally said she could go ahead if she thought it was the right thing to do!

Mow there’s the decisiveness we like to see in our leaders!
