Ok, I love Peggy Noonan as much as anyone, but enough with the name-dropping Reagan funeral columns already…

Oh, and be nice to Noonan.

Peggy has earned the slack that I’m cutting her. Such a passionate defender of the real RR legacy gets time off for good behavior…

I see no problem with a little “name dropping”, how else should she tell this (particular) story? Sure, there have been plenty of essays about Reagan, the man and his legacy, but the purpose of this one was different. Now if you want to hear useless name dropping listen to Rush’s Monday monologue.

Rush was on vacation this past Monday. Did you mean after the funeral?

Peggy gives those of us who love President Reagan a chance to be at the funeral, to overhear the discussions, and to actually take part in the ceremony. I didn’t mind the name dropping, it is an isolated event (over 3 columns).

Rush had been at Bush 41′s birthday party over the weekend, the day before the parachute jumps. From what I heard, the big event for him was having his picture taken with Gorbachev.

    My god.

I said the exact same thing. I understand Reagan being loved and everything, and I admired him too. But the way she keeps harping about him, you’d think they were lovers or something.

It’s time to move on, Noonan.

Of all the pundits who have written about Reagan since his death she was probably the closest to him. I believe her (I hope temporary) fixation on Reagan’s passing shows that even the best and most articulate of us can lose our perspective at times, especially when it relates to something so near and dear to our hearts. Something for all of us who “pundate” to keep in mind.

    I adore you both!

IMHO, she’s the only blond out there who gives you a run for the money!

Peggy was simply setting the scene. Besides, it was kind of a give-away that she’d be dropping names when she entitled her piece “What I Saw at the Funeral” (IIRC) … and then went ahead and … told us what and who she saw at the funeral. Part 3 wasn’t as strong or as enjoyable as Parts 1 & 2, but of the 30 or so Reagan pieces I’ve read, Noonan’s is among the finest and most heartfelt. Jack Dunphy’s (at NRO) was a delight, as was my main man’s Jay Nordlinger.

OK, enough rambling from me. Michelle, congrats on your superb blog. Beauty and brains. What a combination.

I read the first two funeral columns, and I couldn’t take another.

It’s not just the name-dropping that bothers me. There is also the way Noonan always has to write about clever remarks that she made, and the appreciative, we-wish-we’d-said-that reaction of everyone who heard her.

Jacket: Coulter and Ingrahm are blonde, so the whole giving Michelle a run for her money thing has more of that factor in it than you said. Man, that’s awkward wording, glad it’s someone else’s site I’m putting it on. Are there any redheads giving Michelle a run for her money? I don’t think so. Peggy Noonan is like Ann Coulter for your Mom.
