Party of the little people
Column’s up: Just your average Democrat donors
Excerpt:
So, let us hail the diversity of everyday Democrat donors: The pardon-pushing socialite. The Communist-coddling corporate sellout. The reckless Asian-American rainmaker. And the nicotine-stained heiress/almost-felon who keeps on giving.
It’s a bankroll that looks like America. Really.
FYI: The full list of DNC “patriots” is here. The full list of DNC “trustees” is here (pdf file). A database of Kerry “bundlers” is here. (And, for balance, here’s a list of Bush’s Rangers and Pioneers.)
White House For Sale, a very useful campaign finance watchdog site, notes in its blog:
Although much of immediate media analysis focuses on Edwards’ ability to help the ticket among Southerners and independent voters, we focus on the money. Edwards is a former trial lawyer who is sure to bring in more money from that heavily Democratic group.
Kerry’s most recent list of donors already counts 20 trial lawyers as “Vice-Chairs,” the title given those who have bundled $100,000 apiece, and 11 “Co-Chairs,” who have bundled $50,000 apiece. As a whole, lawyers of all types have bundled $6.3 million for the Kerry campaign, making them Kerry’s largest bloc of bundlers.
