So, MoveOn.org and Common Cause are suing FOX News to stop them from using the slogan “Fair and Balanced.” FOX should agree to drop that label when Common Cause stops calling itself “nonpartisan.”

I mean how *dare* they give a non-liberal viewpoint! Dont they know that the steford anchors are always right?

So when will they sue ABCNBCCBSCNN… for deceptive advertising in calling what they spew forth ‘News’?

It would be nice if these people were a little introspective and realized that, while they’re reacting to Fox News, Fox News was made as a reaction to the bias of the rest of the media.

The problem to everyone is one of context. When you are used to watching/getting news from the established outlets that are all overwhelmingly liberal, then all of a sudden comes a news outlet that just reports the news, of course it’s gonna look conservative.

Think of a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being ultra liberal, 10 being ultra conservative. All our news pre-Fox came from about point 2 or 3. Now Fox comes in and delivers at about a 5 and it has them screeming! I love it!

Marshall raises a good point. I still remember the first time I watched FOX News. I couldn’t believe the way they framed it. It seemed way out there. After I watched it a while I realised that even though I was a conservative, I was programed with a liberal paradigm for news. Not that I agreed with it, but that I was simply not used to words and phrases that didn’t fit the liberal news paradigm.

I would say Common Cause is a joke, but they are serious, they need to clean up their own backyard before they even think about suing Fox news. I mean come on, citizens working to end special-interest politics, they are special-interest politics. That’s from just looking over their site for a few minutes, and reading their report “What went wrong”, their so called report about the Iraq war. There is no telling what kind of special interest political crap is in that web site if you take the time to read it all.

Perspective. This is what this is all about.

It is important for leftists to understand the perspective of people on the right (if they did they would understand that we aren’t against the poor, environment, etc - we have different solutions to tackle the problems that we think would work better)

It is also important for people on the right to try to understand people on the left. I think we do a better job at trying to understand people on the left (partly because we are force fed it from so many angles).

But when a network comes along like Fox (which isn’t right wing) for leftists to label it a right-wing network shows that leftists DO NOT have perspective.

Here is the key leftists: Let people on the right define themselves and try to understand their perspective. Then you might find that George Bush and Fox News are not to the right but actually trying to be centrists and split differences. Before you laugh, try to understand that perspective.

Conservatives and libertarians and others on the right define themselves. To lump George Bush or Fox News in our camp and then dismiss them does a disservice to you and keeps your mind closed.

I’ve used the stem-cell research as a prime example. It’s a new issue that hasn’t been debated for decades.

George Bush tried to split the middle by allowing for GOVERNMENT funding of stem-cell research on a limited array of stem-cells (a remaining stock of embryo stem-cells). What did that buy him from the left? Vitriol and hate.

But what is the conservative opinion? Conservatives and libertarians (who aren’t coming from any religious perspective) don’t understand why there should be ANY GOVERNMENT funding of stem-cell research. It isn’t provided for in the constitution and we understand that there are many private companies out there who would love to meet the DEMAND for a cure by inventing the SUPPLY for a cure through the use of stem-cell research. And 40 uses/cures have been found already by umbilical cord stem cells. Interestingly 0 uses/cures have been found by embryo stem cell research. Private research and development most usually provides for a more efficient use of dollars than government funded research and development (with rare exceptions).

How did Fox News report on all of this? Well… Fox News reported the liberals criticism with the intensity that they wished for almost. And then they found some people to counter the criticism so the debate on Fox News CENTERED on the criticism (which was religious-right oriented) and the countering of that criticism.

I don’t remember one time where Fox News just had a conservative or libertarian on there questioning why it should be the governments’ role to fund this research in the first place. So to label Fox News as right of center is laughable to us centrists, and people on the right. COME TO US FOR A DEFINITION of people in the center or right. Let us define ourselves so that you can better see how news organizations like Fox News fits in.

Contrary to its inappropriate headline, the story does not say they are “suing” anybody. They filed a frivolous complaint with the FTC, which isn’t going anywhere.

Too bad, really. Assuming that New York has a SLAPP law, actually suing FoxNews for something this stupid would be a good way to end up paying FoxNews’s attorney bills.

So let me get this straight: Far more people prefer Fox News over CNN, MSNBC, etc. The fact that more people watch Fox means Fox is eminently more popular than the other liberal bitter and angry stations. I would wager that most viewers of Fox became disillisioned with the liberal and selectively edited garbage from CNN and Co. Therefore, MoveOn is upset that most people have watched one or more news channels, have made an informed opinion, and have chosen to watch Fox. To the MoveOn members who did this, are you still bitter that you werent part of the popular clique in high school? And we also must wonder - is this what tactics we can expect in a liberal administration? How dare you make your own informed choices! WE tell you what’s good for you, sheeple!

What’s next, suing the radio stations that carry Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity because MoveOn is upset that people prefer to listen to them instead of the embarrassment called AirAmerica?

Nice poke, Russell. And then there’s CNN who basically is the mouthpiece for Moveon.org. I suppose their new motto could be “Must Agree TV”.

So you have all of these liberal news networks and then Fox News. You would think, if the peaceniks were as peaceful as they tell the rest of us we have to be, they would celebrate the diversity.

However, Liberals, true to their socialist genome must enforce adherence and conformity to their line of thinking– to their groupthink. I am convinced the Left would eventually have gone after Fox News even if it were a marginal player: after all, they went after the Televangelists in the 80’s (who provided them with the ammo). The Left only grows more shrill as they see that not only does the possibility exist that people will get another point of view from fox (Leftists have a real fetish for potential actions of opponents and often confuse them with real-life actions).

The reason we see this pitch of battle is precisely because the Left KNOWS that Fox News big and is, actually, allowing a liberating of the culture from the shame-game of the Libs. People are starting to see contrasts and questioning CNN’s line of reasoning about what’s news and what ideas are morally supreme. The Left sees the country doing precisely what it did when it re-elected Ronald Reagan: whenever given the choice, thumbing their nose at the tired old Liberal rhetoric which prefers to aid our enemies both communist and islamofascist instead of counting all of our blessings living in this great and prosperous land.

The Left, as usual, has show themselves as the warped, frustrated old men that they are. I therefore dub this battle: “Fox News Vs. Mr. Potter”.

This complaint is just liberal resentment trying to find itself a news blurb to get back at Fox for being #1. Dont’ forget, libs love power more than principles.

I used to work at the CNN Center (not for CNN). At the time, the CNN employees were always in a huff about the fallout from that bad merger with AOL. There were layoffs galore. To top it off, I kid you not, Fox News had a rented billboard facing the CNN Center from right across Marietta Street that proclaimed their newly crowned #1 status as a cable news channel. It think it might still there.

Everyday, worried about losing their jobs, the tip-tops at the CNN Center had to look out of their windows at that sign staring them right in the face, its shadow touching the building like an ill-omen for liberals everywhere.

There was a lot of weary, defeated, brow-beaten liberal resentment there. I bet a lot of those fired CNN people are supporting Common Cause. Power over principles, even after they lost it.
