And once again the national guard card is played. The only way Bush could have seen combat in his unit was if Soviet bombers were comming over the north pole.

You know, I’m thinking back to the 1996 presidential campaign and I can’t for the life of me recall any Democrats charging that Senator Bob Dole, who was seriously wounded in combat in Italy in 1944, wasn’t actually a war hero or that he somehow took unfair advantage by being evacuated from the front after being wounded. It just didn’t happen — Democrats didn’t sink to the level of impugning a wounded combat veteran’s service. It’s sad that so many people here don’t follow that example. For shame.

Let’s remember that one of the heroes of Flight 93, Mark Bingham, was a gay businessman and amateur rugby player from San Francisco. How many people here who celebrate his heroism would also have denied him his right to marry and start a family had he survived?

LA and Rick, don’t try to impress us with military words you just learned at Kerry’s website. Benedict Arnold was a war hero…for awhile. At the end of the day the difference between a war hero and a traitor is where they stand at the end of the war. I think this is common sense to most people, a bit more normal. Otherwise everything you have seemingly done in support of your country was clearly a ruse to win favor and perform your betrayal.

My father too, won the silver and bronze stars. I am named after his best friend who gave his life saving wounded soldiers. But neither my dad nor his best friends family walks around all day telling people what heroes they are. They don’t have to; there is no doubt to dispel.

Liberal Avenger, I will decry emphasis on associating Islam with murderous thugs like Jarrah and his cohorts, only after I see mainstream Islam decry the use of violence against innocents as any sort of Allah-sanctioned act.

I will denounce the comparison of the terrorists to a religion of peace, when the most vocal leaders of that religion make clear that these terrorists are offensive to Allah, and an abomination.

So long as Islam is silent on this matter, we have only the word of the murderers.

The word “Heroic” doesn’t really do those passengers justice.

No, Beck, it doesn’t. Primarily because the word ‘hero’ is now used to describe things like getting in and out of ‘Nam in 4 months by stretching and playing the rules around the awarding of medals. It cheapens the word significantly when it is used to describe those who simply went through the motions and performed at minimally acceptable levels.

He won a silver star by abandoning his post to adminster a coup de grace on a mortally wounded enemy attempting to leave the field of battle. He was awarded three purple hearts for dubious wounds and used it as an excuse to leave Viet Nam after only four months, and slandered his commrades after he returned. I personally know corpsmen in Iraq right now with three purple hearts who couldn’t conceive of leaving their friends. He’s no hero.

Kelly, your comments through mostly wrong, were at least a respectable attempt at communicating your thoughts, unlike most of those communicated and otherwise by the caped Liberal Avenger fellow, lady, creature or whatever that person happens to be) and I respect that.

But more than anything else, I have to correct you on this point about our dear friend, the (skinny) Senator from Massachusetts:

I know a Viet-nam War hero.
A Viet-nam War hero is a father of mine.
And Mr. Kerry is no Viet-nam War hero.
