Dem convention follies

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 26, 2004 12:03 AM

This will be a continually updated file on the best of the worst of the Democratic National Convention’s freaks, flubs, and follies. Feel free to leave your nominations.

7/26 Edition.

“What liberal media?” moment of the day: From Spoons, CNN engages in some wishful thinking with its characterization of Carter, Clinton, and Gore as a “trio of former Presidents. Screenshots here.

7/25 Edition.

Most offensive quote from an anti-war activist. From Medea Benjamin, a “peace campaigner” from San Francisco, objecting to the gated demonstration area outside of Fleet Center: “”We don’t deserve to be put in a detention centre, a concentration camp.” This is a concentration camp, ninny. Now, go stand in a corner and grow some shame.

Biggest letdown for conservative Star Wars fans. Natalie Portman in a John Kerry t-shirt.

Most enticing photo for a caption contest
. This pic of actors Ben Affleck, Amber Tamblyn, and Danny Glover at a pre-convention event:

I’ll start: Danny Glover holds up the number of people who saw Gigli.

I think that the middle/poor class feels the same way about rich spoiled millionaire actors as they do about rich spoiled millionaire politicians actually having a clue about their lot in life.

And if Republicans are truly against actors being involved in politics, why did they vote for candidates like Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sonny Bono?

Yeah, Kerry (billionaire) and Edwards (millionaire). :-)

Ronald Reagan (R.I.P., a true conservative), Arnold Schwarzenegger (warmed-over Democrat), and Sonny Bono (R.I.P., was a liberal Republican).

I don’t care if actors are politically active. Just so they don’t try to tell me they know what’s best for me cause they are famous or they “feel my pain”.

Exactly! Is there any senator or representative in office who isn’t at least a millionaire? These days you can’t enter the race for mayor of a major city unless you’ve got millions of campaign dollars behind you.

It’s sad to see millions of dollars poured into political campaigns (doesn’t matter whether it’s republican, democrat or independent) and then go straight into the pockets of our media. I don’t know why we continue to put up with this, but do we really have a choice when those making our laws benefit significantly from these practices?

Until we can reform campaign funding and lobbying practices, this nation will continue to be governed by the wealthy, for the wealthy. None of these people, whether they be politician, actor or media mogul truly feel the pain of the middle/poor class even though they claim to.

This Democratic Ticket is on a whole new financial level.

It is by far the wealthiest ticket in history, even if Kerry has signed some pre-nup (which could be challenged in a divorce proceeding anyway).

It is possible that Edwards has some distant childhood memories of not having his every need met, but it is ovbious from his total lack of appreciation for the risks of manufacturing that he has long since left any such formative experiences – around $30,000,000 ago
