Okay, where did this go so terribly wrong? Michelle Wie was a prisoner in Abu Ghraib? Or a child was imprisoned there for making a dumb statement? Must be packed with kids. Give her a break for now, although I have little hope for her.

On a slightly different subject (why? why not?) I found this comment from the Golf Digest interview interesting: "You mean the PGA Tour media guide lists a player's weight and the LPGA Tour media guide doesn't? That's awesome. I think I'm overweight." She's a 6' tall, 14 year old girl and she thinks she's overweight?!?!?!?!? I saw her on tv a couple of times, and if the camera adds 10 pounds she has a long way to go before she is overweight. Anyone wish to comment on why she thinks she might be?

Here is the UNICEF so-called “report” that people are basing their points on:-
“UNICEF Statement on Iraq
GENEVA / NEW YORK, 11 May 2004 – UNICEF is profoundly disturbed by news reports alleging that children may have been among those abused in detention centres and prisons in Iraq. Although the news reports have not been independently substantiated, they are alarming nonetheless.”
It isn’t a report, it is a comment on unsubstantiated reports. Being against the act isn’t wrong – but taking it as proof of US abuses is stretching it too far.

I've taken my aspirin, so I am not typing feverishly.

Every child should be taught to meet a nationally mandated standard? That may be the current republican model, but not mine. Education choices should be made as close as possible to the person gaining the benefit of the education. Which means educational choices should be made by the parents not some national standards board. Local school boards held accountable to local school distict patrons with the threat of moving to another school and making the funding decisions.

Home schooling? Haven't the time. I'm to busy trying to make a difference in my little part of the world.

I believe she attends the Punaho school, an exclusive private school in Hawaii. Her father is also a college professor at the University of Hawaii. I'm sure he'll have something to say to his daughter about global warming. But the point is for HIM to say something to her; it's not Malkin's place to slam her in a public forum. Yes, I said slammed.

Oh great, now I can hear "Justin" and "Chris" feverishly typing away on their keyboards about how every kid should be homeschooled, or wait, maybe we should just teach Malkin's views in public schools. Yeah. Right.

I think it says more about the education establishment than anything (or hers, anyhow - what she homeschooled?).

Hopefully, maturity will take care of any deficiencies.

Tell you what Justin, how about you, "Chris," and Malkin join forces, get off your high horses, and actually do something that makes a meaningful difference in the world, instead of just bitching about other people. And let Michelle Wie be a kid and enjoy her promising professional golf career.

This "pretty darn bright" girl is forming her beliefs and critical thinking skills with which she will be analyzing the rhetoric from prospective politicians and special interest groups in order to vote and demand policy in 4 short years.

She has accepted the pseudo-science of the socialist greens, and is probably well on the path to accepting and demanding the feel good "I care about the earth" policies that are in fact economically and ecologically destructive.

Is she being slammed? A bit, open mouth insert foot applies to adult and child celebrities.

The larger point is that pseudo-science based policies are terribly costly in terms of income and personal freedom. And people are being indoctrinated to accept them at an early age. And all for what? The logical conclusion of accepting these policies is pseudo-science based totalitarianism.

If she wants to make a meaningful positive difference she ought to take a minute or two and apply that brain power on discovering what works rather than what feels good. She could use some of that time she spends flying from one golf tournament to another to read up on it.

Here, 10 projects were ranked based upon costs and projected benefits, from very good to bad projects. The bad projects? (bad to worst) Guest worker programs, Optimal carbon tax, Kyoto protocol, and value-at-risk carbon tax.

http://www.copenhagenconsensus.com/Default.asp?ID=158

Or maybe she wants to get involved in promoting institutional reforms that would allow 3rd world countries to enter the 20th century, (she can work on getting them into the 21st when they get closer).

Come on now, we all know it was a slam on this kid. If it truly were "about how she came to her conclusions and how unfortunate it is that activists and science fiction can so easily be believed. Not denegrating a teen-age girl," then why the little personal jabs? SNL references, "vacuous eco-musings," favorite movie jab - all slams. It's got nothing to do with left or right. I don't understand what Malkin's point was to rip on this 14 year old girl.
I wonder what Malkin's favorite comedy or movie was when she was 14. Not that she (or someone on her behalf) would post, because it would open her up to the same type of ridicule that she opened for Wie.
I really hope someone doesn't do the same to her daughter when she's 14.
