Late-night cravings
Things I miss about…
Seattle: Dick’s Drive-In fries and homemade vanilla milkshakes. Copper River salmon. Ivar’s clam chowder.
Los Angeles: In-n-Out burgers.
South Jersey: Funnel cakes and lemonade on the Boardwalk. Fralinger’s Original Saltwater Taffy. Joe and John’s pizza. Hoagies from anywhere.
Reminds me of one of the late, great Michael Kelly’s lovely, witty, classic columns on South Jersey cuisine: Smorgasbord by the Sea.
Yum.

Okay, 3 years later I’ll add these:
Arlington VA: Hot subs from some eatery the name of which I have forgotten at the Crystal City Mall.
Troy Hills NJ, Drive-In Theater: The artificial burgers that they kept in foil bags under the heat lamps at the snack bar.
Troy Hills or adjacent Pine Brook NJ: Wetson’s 25 cent burgers which were grosser – and better – than the above. They were flavorful enough that the taste almost knocked back the smell of the waste dump 200 yards away.
NYC: another place the name of which I cannot remember off Bleeker street, a basement resturant since 1925, which had the best – I mean the best – strawberry shortcake you ever had.
London: Sausage and Mash. I have no idea how they do it, but you just can’t get it as good anywhere else but the UK. I used to eat so much I was afraid one day I was going to wake up as a plate of sausage and mash.
Anyway, this thread is 3 years old and no one is reading it anyway, so I’ll stop. (it’s nice to talk to oneself – unlike married life, you never get an arguement -oops! Did I say that? I’ll deny it, you know.)
