Hmmm.

As a Conservative I have only one thing to note:

The GOP controls both Houses of Congress and the White House. If terrorists conduct a successful attack inside America and their movements are traced to an over-the-border crossing then the blame will fall squarely on the GOP and Bush.

This state of affairs is so fraught with danger that I’m astonished that the GOP allows it to continue. If there is anything that could potentially destroy the GOP as a viable political party it is this.

How on earth could any GOP candidate, for any office, counter a “these incompetent idiots LET the terrorists enter the country unchallenged” meme?

Heh. I live in Cochise county – right next to Ft. Huachuca (US Army Intel school). The border patrol is constantly on post rounding up illegals by the dozen – so much that training is periodically disrupted. I find it ironic, a bit, that potential terrorists trapse by the Home of US Army Intelligence nearly every day.
