Baldwin vs. Baldwin

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 29, 2004 11:42 AM

Via CNSNews: Has-been gasbag actor Alec Baldwin “slammed the influence of religious conservatives on Wednesday, telling Democrats that the Republican Party ‘has been hijacked by these fundamentalist wackos.’”

Meanwhile, Alec’s brother, Stephen Baldwin, who became a born-again Christian two years ago, has teamed up with Christian evangelist Luis Palau to produce an extraordinary documentary on Christian athletes called “Livin’ It.” Stephen recently appeared on Pat Robertson’s 700 Club to promote the film:

Stephen says he gave his life to the Lord at that time, but his interest in Christianity didn’t become strong until after the terrorist attacks on September 11th. In March 2002, Stephen was baptized at church.

He realized that there was not a lot of Christian content in the secular marketplace and looked at starting a company that offered quality Christian media to young people. After attending a festival in Syracuse, New York, put on by the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association, Stephen, 37 at the time, was inspired. “I’ve been to MTV and all of that worldly stuff,” he says. “It’s death. It’s meaningless.

Another note about Alec. Fox News quoted him at a panel of actors at the DNC convention saying that the area of America between New York and Los Angeles was “flyover country, not leadership America”. Remember that at his next movie, fans.

I saw this interview with Stephen Baldwin a few weeks back. He was very positive in his beliefs and never appeared to be an over-the-top fundamentalist. It’s nothing more than someone being positive about their life and realizing there is a greater power than themselves out there.

I never can understand why the majority of “actors” and “elite” educated have such a hard time with people who say they follow Christain values. Many times these people prove to be complete hypocrites. Case-in-point, when Linda Rondstat made the comment that if she new there was a christain fundamentalist in the audience it made her feel uncomfortable. She is a Kerry supporter - I wonder if she felt “uncomfortable” when Kerry was speaking to the Urban League and thanking God.

Right on! Alec Baldwin has no place criticizing our Party for being run by Evangelicals! Remember when that Baldwin no-good leftist went on the Conan show and said they should kill all of our republican leaders? He’s crazy and he scares me and he punches reporters and even his own wife (I guess, saw it in the Enquirer).

You know who really gets my goat though? Abe Vigoda! He’s been out there every day tearing down the president of the United States, promoting abortion and euthanasia (which he should take full advantage of himself if it’s so great - he’s what? 102?). Vigoda is also quoted as saying that Bush sent us into war knowing there were no WMD’s, but did so simply because of financial advantages to financial backers, friends and family! Can you imagine that? Abe Vigoda is saying that our President (God Bless him), has sent boys (and girls who didn’t belong in the military in the first place) to die just for financial gain of corporations? That’s ridiculous! I don’t understand Bush’s reasons, but I do know this: He’s the President and he knows what he’s doing and I trust him fully (it’s great to finally have a president we can trust!).

Remember that the next time you go to the video store or theater to see an Abe Vigoda film!

And just who are these “fundamentalist wackos” that Alec Baldwin claims are taking over the Republican Party (teh best Party ever!)?

Is he talking about Bob Jones? Well, Mr. “French wine, please” Baldwin (if that is your REAL name) let me tell you that just because Bob Jones doesn’t allow inter-racial dating at his university it’s not because he’s a “fundamentalist wacko”. He’s just a good, decent conservative - who fears the “mud races”. Hey, I think Michelle is just as hot as the next guy does (Unless the next guy is a Democrat - if you catch my drift) but I’d never risk letting her impure genes mix with my Arian ones. And God (teh best god ever) bless President Bush for having the guts to speak at Bob Jones University and, by doing so, showing that he supports true conservative values.

You don’t think Ms. Baldwin was calling Pat Robertson a “fundamentalist wacko” do you. Look, Baldwin, just because Pat Robertson is a fundamentalist and predicted that the world would end in the fall of 1982, that does not make him a “fundamentalist wacko”. I suppose neither you nor any of your elitist Hollywood Liberal friends have never been wrong about anything?

    Michelle,

Please excuse the cross-post comment (this was discussed at AllahPundit.com.

But the issue of religious or fundamentalist Christians hijacking the Republican Party is a strange but not surprising straw-man brought to you by the makers of “hate-triots”.

On the contrary, it is “traditional” Americans who have (re)joined the GOP largely but not exclusively after 9-11 (The shameful and inexcusable behavior of William Jefferson Clinton is just one of many other reasons).

Take for example the popularity of the so-called “right wing” blogs (read “Digitial Brownshirts”) their authors and readers discuss the issues of the day from a secular and certainly rarely, if ever, proselytizing basis.

Instapundit, Donald Luskin, Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller, Oliver Kamm & Norman Geras (both from the pro-war Left), Pejmanesque, AllahPundit, ASV, Kim Du Toit, AceofSpades, WizBang, Tim Blair, RightWingNews, FrontPageNews…You get my point.

Yes certainly, there are those on the right like Donald Sensing & Clayton Cramer, (and even NRO) that have either religious or Christian content, but where is the evidence of the religious take-over?

The Reagan Democrats and Post 9-11 Democrats (not necessarily the same people) are the ones who will decide this election, and they represent a large portion of the American electorate.

As there is as yet no discernable Democratic Platform save for AnyOneBut Bush, platitudes, and dangling modifiers, leaving the real action in the Secular Right and Center who will, I believe, vote for W., leaving the Moore-Carter-Clintonistas without a prayer.

No matter what Alce Baldwin says.

Is it just me, or does nobody else consider it deeply ironic that Alex Baldwin and his wife Kim Bassinger are religious fundamentalists themselves?

They are, after all, spokesmen for PeTA.

It is an article of faith amongst the AR true-believers that animals have “natural rights” by virtue of the fact that they have the capacity to suffer. Indeed, to the AR zealots, animals have the “right” to live their lives entirely unfettered by human interference, meaning that animals should not be hunted, eaten, kept as pets (a form of involuntary servitude), used in experiments, etc., regardless of the rationale. In short, if it’s not ethical to do it to a human, it’s not ethical to do it to an animal.

Except, of course spaying and neutering, practices that are widely supported by AR activists … go figure.
