It is an article of faith amongst the AR true-believers that animals have “natural rights” by virtue of the fact that they have the capacity to suffer. Indeed, to the AR zealots, animals have the “right” to live their lives entirely unfettered by human interference, meaning that animals should not be hunted, eaten, kept as pets (a form of involuntary servitude), used in experiments, etc., regardless of the rationale. In short, if it’s not ethical to do it to a human, it’s not ethical to do it to an animal.

Except, of course spaying and neutering, practices that are widely supported by AR activists … go figure.
