No girlie men allowed

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 29, 2004 07:49 PM

Mark Steyn whacks the girlie men of Europe and America upside the head, including the author of this wussy article in Foreign Policy proudly touting the European Union as “The Metrosexual Superpower.”

On a similar note, blogger Jennifer Martinez calls on real men to rise up and revolt against the metrosexuals:

Ok folks, I have had it. I’ve taken all I can stand and I can’t stand no more. Every time my TV is on, all that can be seen is effeminate men prancing about, redecorating houses and talking about foreign concepts like “style” and “feng shui.” Heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, trans-sexual, metrosexual, non sexual; blue, green, and purple-sexual-bogus definitions have taken over the urban and suburban world!

Real men of the world, stand up, scratch your butt, belch, and yell “ENOUGH!” I hereby announce the start of a new offensive in the culture wars, the Retrosexual movement…

The rest of her rousing “Retrosexual Code” is here.

Update: Turns out the author of the Retrosexual Code is Grau Magus, whose anti-metrosexual manifesto has been spreading across the Internet like David Beckham’s spilt nail polish. You go, man!

Good. That will be much better than the world full of wimpy metrosexuals, who are just the 00’s version of the sensitive, sweater-around-the-neck Alan Alda-type wussboys of the 1970’s.

The Liberal Avenger worries that we’re being manipulated, but worries too late. It’s already happened, and that’s apparenly OK, because the manipulation was done by LA’s favorite fringe groups. Brian sez: “Real men do what they do.”

Hear, hear! If only it were true. A couple inconvenient facts present themselves: First, the vigorous marketing-based homosexualization and desensitization of the populace begun in the 1990s. Second and related, the rampant and intellectually vacant political correctness of our times, enforced by simply shouting down anyone who holds opinions different than those of certain fringe interest groups.

The result? A depressing number of “real men” have been mentally neutered into thinking “metrosexual” is somehow unrelated to their own feminization. And just as in the case of certain past attempts to “butch-up” the ladies, it’s considered impolitic (by the Liberal Avenger and others) to clear one’s throat and holler “Whoa!”.

Well, I say “Whoa!”, and I comfort myself that those weak-minded or weak-willed enough to have fallen for the marketing hype and begun their estrogen regimens are at least proven susceptible to suggestion, and might just see the light again, to the benefit of society and themselves.

    Michele (and Jenniefer),

    Wow.

Pretty near the whole list sums me up (my late-Father, too) except for two things.

First, I have never chopped down a tree (but am willing to try).

Second, which I am afraid may disqualify me, is that although I don’t have or watch TV, and only go to the movies once or twice a year, I saw “Down With Love” while flying last year (actually saw it five times in one month, hey, it was a busy month at work), and liked it so much, that I bought the DVD.

But in any case, the problem is not so much the paucity of Retrosexual men, there are plenty of us, it’s the near absence of Retrosexual women.

I went to a home and garden show last winter with my wife. Had my picture taken with one of the Fab Five. A week later she gets me to try an exfoliant on my face. As I looked in the mirror I asked myself, “My God, man, what has happened to you?”. Where did this go wrong? Probably when I agreed to go to the home and garden show. All is well though - I asked her to pull my little finger and I knew I was back.

Be sure to read the comments… there is a really good addition to the code tucked away in the middle of all the applause.

After that, it started the rounds through the million times forwarded e-mails, somehow ending up on spammers lists for some reason…

Since then, it’s taken a life of it’s own, been added to by hundreds of Retrosexuals across the internet, and spread far and wide. Usually without a link back to the source, hence this comment :) If you want a good laugh, check out the “Retrosexual Frontline” category in my sidebar. I have a point by point re-fisking of an attempted fisking of The Code by some humorless feminist bint.

The retosexual code stems from the frustrations of men who are tired of being told we have to be in touch with our feminine side. We are sickened by the proliferation of demasculating media whores.
What people tend to miss I have noticed, is the tongue in cheek approach given to Grau’s very serious message. The message being, men shouldn’t be women, that’s what women are for. There is nothing wrong with being presentable, we encourage bathing adn grooming. There is just no need for hundreds of toiletries in a man’s bathroom. We don’t encourage violence per se, but we expect you to be able to handle yourself if it becomes neccessary.
What really worries me is when I see how the media and public education system are trying to systematically remove ANY sense of gender difference. Men and women are different, get over it. I could go on, and on I guess, but I suggest you follow the links to the original. Just remember that if you look through the sarcasm, and obvious jokes, there is an undeniable truth to what the “Code” stands for.

Well, Brian J. I would say you’ve kind of missed the point. Real men do what they do indeed, except the media and entertainment business is attempting to redefine what a real man is. It is through this false front of unisexual b.s. that the code emerges and sheds light on the subject.
We don’t ask that you change who you are, we merely outline what it means to be a man. (Yes we certainly missed points go add some)
