THE MALKIN MEDIA DIVERSITY TEST

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 4, 2004 12:14 AM

My new column is up. It’s on the “UNITY Journalists of Color” convention being held this week in Washington, D.C. Both President Bush and Sen. John Kerry plan to make appearances, where they will try to out-P.C. each other in gag-worthy fashion.

I cooked up a little quiz for all these skin-deep diversity types and have invited my fellow “journalists of color” to show us their true colors. Feel free to send the test to your favorite mainstream media journalists and ask them for their scores. Test-takers get five points for every statement they mark “YES:”

1. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life.
2. I think my taxes are too high.
3. I supported Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
4. I voted for President Bush in 2000.
5. I am a gun owner.
6. I support school voucher programs.
7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools.
8. I oppose bilingual education.
9. I oppose gay marriage.
10. I want Social Security privatized.
11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense.
12. I shop at Wal-Mart.
13. I enjoy talk radio.
14. I am annoyed when news editors substitute the phrase “undocumented person” for “illegal alien.”
15. I do not believe the phrase “a chink in the armor” is offensive.
16. I eat meat.
17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty.
18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured.
19. I cry when I hear “Proud to be an American” by Lee Greenwood.
20. I don’t believe the New York Times.

My score: 100. Natch!

Color me culturally and ideologically diverse.

Update:
The Washington Post reports on UNITY here.

Besides the fact I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Wal-Mart (sorry, folks), I oppose its practice of hiring illegal alien slave-laborers and importing mass amounts of goods from China, also made with slave labor that is helping to both punish its political dissidents and build up their military power for a coming war with the US which their defense minister has already said is inevitable… and of course that those products made in China and sold through Wal-Mart are advertized as “made in America” :-p

Michelle sorry to hear about the trolls. Perhaps registering with True type might be one method to keep out the trolls?

I score a 95 because, you will laugh I stupidly voted for Jimmy Carter. Yea I know just exactly how stupid can one person be. The biggest disaster to strike the office of the President and I had a hand in it.

If it is any consolation I then worked for the Election of Ronald Reagan. I used to think he was a lock to be the best President of the last 50 years when along came GWB. I consider George Bush’s speech in the Cathedral days after 9/11 to be one of the most stirring calls to arms given by a President. At least I did until I heard the 9/21 Speech….now I will fight anyone who claims that he isn’t able to stir the souls of the citizens.

Anyways thank you very much for having comments, thank you very much for having trackbacks as well. It has helped my traffic considerably.

..actually I’m referring to the gay marriage one in particular. Don’t gay people have the same rights as anyone else, or are they considered second-class citizens in your book?

On the flip side, I do recall some religious guy on TV making a very good point. He said something to the effect that you may condone gay marriage because you believe gay people have just as much a right to their sexual preferance as heterosexuals, but where do you draw the line? If you allow gay marriage, then what happens next? Other groups such as pedophiles will be up shouting for their rights based on their sexual preference.

The other question in my book is whether law should be involved in religion in the first place, because marriage is a religious institution after all. Imho it should be up to each church to decide whether to recognise gay couples or not, and the law should not be prejudice either way.

    3. I think Clinton should have been impeached, but for the more serious crimes he commited and not for lying about Monica giving him a BJ.

    10. I think Social Security should be eliminated, not privatized.

Note on #4. GWB won’t get my vote in 2004 because he refuses to enforce the immigration laws. In addition to the $5000 a year this costs me, my four year old daughter was exposed to tuberculosis from an illegal Mexican!

demonsurfer your flipside example is over the top. The religious guy is trying to scare you. No matter where you stand on the gay marriage issue to suggest allowing gays to marry will lead to pedophiles being somehow a protected group is disingenuous at best. Wonder what this preacher thought about allowing blacks to vote. Goodness gracious what might that lead to. :)
Personally gays marrying doesn’t bother me and I think it is unfair to limit the scope of personal freedoms where it doesn’t impact my personal freedoms. It also doesn’t seem fair not to allow “couples” the same federal benefits and protections I enjoy as a married man.

    Actually I got about 80…..

Up here in Canada, it is hard to ‘own’ a gun but there are ways of getting around it…..’ahem’……so yes on that one…

    I guess regarding 7 I am undecided….
As for 8, I don’t have a hard time with bilingual education as long as it is a choice…….is that what we are referring too? Let’s face it, learning Spanish or French up here in Canada, these are great international languages and will only enhance a person’s resume down the line….

    10. I simply do not know enough on this issue…….certainly some tinkering is needed for sure….

    19. I do not cry at this song but I am incredibly touched by it……indeed American Patriot songs I absolutely love……up here in MultiCULTural Canada we have very little to be celebrating about……hell, I don’t even know what Canada is anymore???

Score me an 80 but this could be higher if I had some more info on these issues…

Why didn’t anyone hear something? A glove at each scene seems pretty convenient. Those bloody socks were a little late to the evidence room. OJ was guilty and the DA tampered with the evidence. Getting a corrupt pet judge to okay it, bypassing the electorate completely, is a no-go.

I have shopped at Wal-Mart (in the small town South it is almost mandatory) and I see all the same products and brand names there that you find ANYWHERE else. It is just another retail store. As far as the made in America tag goes, amost everything marked “Made in America”, no matter what retailer you buy it from, is a joke.

A product only has to be “finished” in America to be legally marked “Made in AMerica”. For example, in the garment industry, a manufacturer can have shirts completed overseas, shipped here, and then sew on the washing instructions tag. That is the “finishing” process and now that shirt is officially “Made in America”.

Thank you for the fun quiz.

I scored 90 points. I had to answer no to #1 because 1992 was my first time voting. I was young and was brought up in a VERY pro-union, liberal home. Even though I personally was pro-life, did not particularly care for unions, and (much to my parents’ chagrin) kind of liked Ronald Reagan, I stupidly bought the whole ” the Democrats are for the little guy” line. Shortly after the election, I regretted my vote and never made that mistake again.

I also had to answer no to #5. My family does not own a gun, yet.

As for question #19. Ever since I was young, I have choked up when I hear ANY patriotic song. I do truly enjoy listening to Lee Greenwood’s song, but by far, my favorite patriotic song is The Battle Hymn of the Republic. I also love Ray Charles’ America the Beautiful.

If you choose to have sexual intercourse (penis inside the vagina sexual intercourse), then your choice has been made. If you were raped or forced, then your choice has yet to be made, so you can determine whether or not to have that child. At very least, the rule should be that if you have an abortion, you have to eat it. That’d cut down on this problem drastically and maybe some women will start acting like Ladies again – like Michelle used to!

Those of us against bilingual education believe it handlicaps them as American citizens going forward since English IS the language of the United States. Traditionally, one of the major goals of immigrants was to learn English. We still require they show a certain degree of competence in English before awarding them citizenship. It’s plumb silly do make it easy for the second generation of immigrants to avoid learning English.
