ON PROFILING

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 17, 2004 08:36 AM

Tom Ridge made a splash yesterday with news that al Qaeda is recruiting non-Arabs. He used the opportunity to deride racial and ethnic profiling as an effective counterterrorism tool. Here’s a piece I did today in response. The fact that al-Qaeda is using some non-Arab recruits does not render racial/ethnic/religion/nationality profiling moot. As long as we have open borders, Osama bin Laden will continue to send Middle East terrorists here by land, sea and air. Not to mention the ones that came here years ago and have remained undetected.

On a related note, Joel Mowbray revisits the State Department’s failure to enforce a visa screening law that profiles young, single, Arab men: Red Carpet Remains for Saudi Visa Applicants.
