SEN. KENNEDY, REP. LEWIS, AND THE TERRORIST WATCH LIST
We’ve all heard about the travel travails of Sen. Edward Kennedy, whose name was placed on a watch list. Now comes word that Rep. John Lewis of Georgia has had a similar problem. Neither Kennedy nor Lewis has been barred from flying, but in Kennedy’s case a supervisor had to overrule a ticketing agent and Lewis says he is ineligible for e-tickets, has to provide extra identificaiton, and has to allow his luggage to be inspected by hand.
As the New York Post observes, this is “[n]ot exactly an undue hardship. In fact, those relatively minor inconveniences sound like a small price to pay for ensuring that the nation’s airways remain safe and terrorist-free. “
