DANZIGER’S LOST CARTOON

Thanks to all the readers who sent me their e-mail and phone exchanges with the Condoleezza Rice-hating Jeff Danziger. While he defended his sophomoric racist cartoon to tons of you over the past day (“Think for yourself,” he admonished in his insulting boilerplate response to you), he has now removed the offensive cartoon from his own site. It is also no longer available via Google cache. If anyone saved a copy of it that I can link to, please let me know.

And this is incredible: The New York Times Syndicate, which carries his work, has replaced the cartoon in its online Danziger archive with a photo of a black man in Detroit’s African Town.

I don’t know how to capture the whole screen, but if the syndicate takes the page down, this is what’s on it: Thumbnails of 10 Danziger cartoons from 9/23 – 10/7. The thumbnail for 10/6/04 has the following description:

RICE-ALUMINUM-TUBES-CAUSES-IRAQ-CAI-100604
Group: DANZIGER
Credit: DANZIGER
Keywords: CONDOLEEZZA RICE ALUMINUM TUBES
CAUSES FOR IRAQ WAR SADDAM NUCLEAR
Provider: CartoonArts International / The New York Times Syndicate

But instead of the cartoon, this photo appears:

What is up with that?

Update: Found. Michael King saved an image of the lost cartoon. It’s here.

Update II: Bill Hobbs is on the story here.
