<description>David Moschetti says his fix &quot;was for Norton Internet Security only. Therefore, if your users are still having problems viewing your website&#039;s graphics and are using other software, they can e-mail me at ciimstechsupport@cwo.com for further help. Please let them know that I will only be able to provide technical support to resolve the graphics problem associated with your site.&quot; Thanks David!

<description>I noticed one thing not mentioned: Windows XP has a built-in firewall. If there is a firewall program installed on top of the XP program, there will be problems. I had problems viewing lots of sites until I removed the program and adjusted the XP firewall.</description>

<description>I think it&#039;s the way your server is set up, which affects the way certain firewalls need to be set up. Chris below is correct with the Zone Alarm Pro fix. The free version doesn&#039;t have the problem. Other firewalls will have similar fixes, though they may refer to &quot;referer&quot; rather than &quot;private header&quot;.

One reason a server may be set this way is in the situation where a web site pays for bandwidth, the server can check to see if the graphics are being &quot;served&quot; to a browser that is looking at that site and not a third party site. If Michelle was paying for bandwidth, as we read the site at least she&#039;s paying for her own readers. If I run &quot;stolenphotos.com&quot;, and put her picture on my site ( as in ), she isn&#039;t paying for my readers looking at it. But if I use in my html then my millions of (hypothetical) readers would be using her bandwidth, and she might end up paying for it. To prevent that, a server can be set up to check to see if the graphics are being served to viewers of her web site rather than mine. But your firewall must allow &quot;private header information&quot; as Zone Alarm Pro calls it.
And please run a firewall for your own sake. In my experience as an IT guy it takes less than 20 minutes for an unprotected computer to be compromised when it is attached to the net.</description>

<description>The image problem is referer based.
For firefox, make sure the value of

network.http.sendRefererHeader

is set to 2.

To do this, in firefox, type about:config in the URL. This displays a number of variables. Type &quot;ref&quot; in the filter to shorten the list.

Right click on
network.http.sendRefererHeader
Select Modify, change the value to 2
Exit and restart Firefox.</description>

<description>I could never see the graphics at allahpundit. My browser of choice is Netscape and I have AdSubtract installed. To see the graphics I would have to disable AdSubtract and then use IE. At some point last summer Allah changed formats, and now I can see all his graphics with either browser without disabling AdSubtract. I notice tonight that all his pictures are &quot;http://www .../PictureName.jpg&quot;. Maybe Mark and BRs ideas work!

Can you find out why Allah stopped blogging as soon as the Sox won the series? I miss him so!</description>

<description>Oh, and if you must run a PC, consider better AntiVirus software than Norton. Trend Micro makes the best. www.antivirus.com</description>

<description>Another simple solution is to sell your PC and buy a Mac. Macs don&#039;t have all the problems mentioned here. You don&#039;t have to spend extra money on virus protection software, and multimedia application software.

Also, you don&#039;t have to spend quite a bit of time keeping Virus software, spyware control, and Microsoft patches up to date.

Dollar for Dollar Macs are also much cheaper than PCs when you factor in all of these hidden costs.

If you still don&#039;t have the money to switch out your computer, at the very least, go to www.mozilla.org and download FireFox and start using it in place of Internet Explorer. You will love how much faster it is, and you will spend a lot less time worrying about all of the above evil threats to your PC.</description>

<description>My current guess is that the Apache 1.3.33(Unix) server running on michellemalkin.com is set up, possibly manually or possibly by MT, to reject most direct accesses of these files, by using the Referer field as described in Apache&#039;s rewrite guide at http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/misc/rewriteguide.html (scroll to &quot;Blocked Inline-Images&quot;) which says &quot; While we cannot 100% protect the images from inclusion, we can at least restrict the cases where the browser sends a HTTP Referer header.&quot; (Older browsers tend not to send such a header.)

I can view the images within their posts (I&#039;m running Mozilla on RH Linux, with no virus/ad blocking and a hardware firewall router) but I cannot view or download them as independent requests without faking or deleting the referer. For example,

GET http://michellemalkin.com/graphics/mm.gif

produces &quot;403 Forbidden&quot;, where

GET -H &#039;Referer: http://michellemalkin.com&#039; http://michellemalkin.com/graphics/mm.gif

produces the file. I can easily imagine that anti-virus or proxy settings could mix up the referer references so that the images would not be visible even within the posts, but I am puzzled by marc&#039;s apparent ability to see the files directly, apparently without faking the referer. I assume that he&#039;s using one of the browsers of the no referer list at http://www.logilune.com/eric/noreferer.html, or something else that kills this HTTP field.

If this needs to be fixed, I would look at the Apache config.</description>

<description>This is not the solution to your main problem but you might want to take all those dots out of your image file names.

immigrants.184.2.650.jpg should be immigrants_184_2_650.jpg or just leave them out altogether.

This stuff goes through a lot of servers enroute from one place to another and all it needs is one that doesn&#039;t like your dots. And NEVER have spaces in your file names.</description>

<description>I have no problems with Opera 7.23 (or the newer version). Of course, I don&#039;t use a firewall on this computer.

(My new one will have one, just as soon as I can get it to work...)</description>
