DAVID BRUDNOY, CLASS ACT
One of the most gracious and intelligent radio talk show hosts in the business shocked the Boston area with a farewell show yesterday from his hospital bed. Libertarian-leaning host, professor, and writer David Brudnoy has been living publicly with AIDS since 1994. He now has an untreatable form of cancer and expects to die within days. My very first radio interview was with David back in 1992. We talked about the politics of race and the Rodney King trial. More recently, he devoted generous amounts of time interviewing me about both of my books. He treated both guests and callers with good humor, great intellectual curiousity, and utmost respect. I will miss him dearly. And his passing will be a great loss for the industry.
David established a private fund to raise money for AIDS research.

He was also a devoted champion of academic freedom and served on the board of advisors of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.
A donation to one or both of these causes would be a fitting way to pay tribute.
God bless you, David.
Update: David has passed on. WBZ’s memorial is here.
