MY SECOND DHS CHIEF PICK

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 16, 2004 12:46 PM

As I mentioned earlier this week, my top choice for DHS chief is veteran border enforcement official/former U.S. attorney Peter Nunez. Now comes word that Frances Fragos Townsend “appears” to be at the top of the shortlist.

Forget Townsend. My second dream pick would be the relentless and inimitable Heather Mac Donald. Here’s her latest piece on the dire need for increased immigration enforcement, which concludes:

Washington should allocate the resources to detain and deport illegals, and should start enforcing long-standing laws against employing alien lawbreakers. A deafening roar of “racism” will result ? but with the country at war, pandering to the race advocates must give way to protecting American lives.

How much better off we would be if those scathingly blunt and necessary words were coming from President Bush.

Dream on…

Update: Reader David Calobrisi chimes in…

Just wanted to say that I’ve been telling my wife and friends for quite some time now that Heather Mac Donald would be my choice as DHS chief. Glad to see others agree.
