ONE LAST TEMPER TANTRUM
This isn’t getting a lot of attention, but unhinged counter-inaugural protesters in Washington, D.C., went on a last-hurrah rampage in the Adams Morgan neighborhood last night–breaking windows, spraying anarchist grafitti all over shops and buildings, vandalizing a cop’s car, and smashing doors at a local police precinct office. Nearly 80 people were arrested. According to the Washington Post:
Of 72 people arrested on misdemeanor charges of parading without a license, 67 were released after paying a $50 fine, and two were released but are required to appear in court later. Three others were released yesterday after spending the night in jail. Police said six juveniles also were charged with curfew violations.
Damage resulting from the incident was estimated at $15,000, police said…
The tantrum-throwers said they targeted businesses and institutions responsible for “responsible for exploitation and oppression.” But the neighborhood they invaded, Adams Morgan, happens to be one of the most liberal, anti-Bush parts of town.
Brilliant.
Update: Read the gloating of anti-cop anarchists here (and some debate with a few dissenters). A sample:
…WELL DONE BLACK BLOCK NEXT TIME PLEASE SPIT ROAST THEM PIGS WITH PETROL BOMBS AND GIVE THEM HELL FROM ME…
