THE CON ARTIST AT APPLE VALLEY HIGH

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 23, 2005 02:01 PM

Francisco Serrano, a 21-year old homeless man from Mexico, was tossed into jail for trespassing after pretending to be a student at his old high school, Apple Valley High, in Apple Valley, Minn. Serrano, who reportedly attended classes and slept in the theater, had been a real student (a 19-year old sophomore!) at the school two years ago.

Not only is Serrano homeless, but he is also apparently an illegal alien–a fact that reporter Steve Karnowski or his editor didn’t see fit to include in this Associated Press report.

Serrano was bailed out of jail by a real estate developer who was convicted last month of bribing a city councilman. The developer reportedly has offered Serrano a job.

All of which raises a couple of interesting questions: Why would anyone want to go back to high school? Do the teachers at Apple Valley take attendance? Did Serrano go out for a sport? Was he planning to go to college and hoping for illegal alien tuition tax breaks?

One bit of advice to the Minneapolis real estate developer who has offered Serrano a job: knowingly hiring an illegal immigrant is a felony. (Or maybe the developer is thinking one step ahead of me.)
