Over the weekend, many pro-life bloggers took note of the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Instapunk e-mailed me with an interesting observation that most of the bloggers commemorating the day, with a few exceptions, were women and that most of the e-mailers responding to their blog’s anniversary post were “women who are passionately pro-life.”

Today, pro-life activists are continuing the commemoration with a national March for Life in Washington and other events. An estimated 100,000 participants marched last year, and higher turnout is expected today.

Expect the MSM to mostly ignore the vast numbers marching against abortion. Fortunately, there is plenty of blog coverage to fill the void:

Update II: Chain Gang at Instapunk took notes on the March for Life live broadcast. Also got this first-hand account from a D.C. reader:

Dear Ms. Malkin, as it happens I am a lawyer with an 8th floor corner
office at 11th & F Street in DC, and I had a perfect bird’s-eye view of two
marches in the last few days: the Inaugural Day Anarchists’ March, which
came down 11th toward my window and turned left onto F directly under my
window, going away from me along F towards 9th street, and the Pro-Life
March today, which came down F from 9th Street towards me and directly
under my window, continuing along past on F.

The Anarchists had about 200-300 people in one compact group. They came
down 11th lead by a big horizontal banner, held chest-high by about 8 men
across, black with the words “Right-Wing Scum, Your Time Has Come.” Others
held various nondescript banners. The mood was plainly threatening, and
police escorted the group closely. Eventually, after leaving my sight and
reaching the parade route, as newspapers reported, some of this group
assaulted a security fence and tried to get into the parade area, but were
repulsed with pepper spray.

The Pro-Life march was an endless army of peaceful marchers. On and on and
on came more and more of them, appearing to my view as they turned left off
9th onto F street and started marching toward me — most carrying blue and
white signs that said Pro-Life and similar slogans. There were no slogans
of hate, and I did not see any “baby-part” signs. I was amazed at the
numbers. It was really like an army marching, units after units, many
carrying banners that showed where they came from, reminding me of how
units in the Civil War armies carried banners and other things declaring
the state and town from which they came. Far more than half the marchers
appeared to be women, and a large percentage appeared to be teenage girls.
Everyone was dressed the way you see people at a Walmart, except for the
groups of nuns or priests who came along. Groups of people often wore
same-colored scarfs that set one group apart from another. There were so
many marchers that traffic north and south on 11th Street was blocked by
the march for 20 or 30 minutes — police allowed a bus or two to slip
through when a gap appeared in the parade, but I could see traffic jammed
all the way up and down 11th street for several blocks.

I know that it isn’t really correct to compare the numbers for these two
demonstrations, since the Anarchists were but one part of the anti-Bush
demonstrations, while the entire Pro-Life March appeared to be passing by
under my window. But it was clear which group was more likely to attract
Americans, and which was more likely to repel them.
