QUOTES OF THE DAY
Two things that jumped out at me this morning…
A mourner responds to the tragic helicopter accident in Iraq that killed nearly 40 U.S. Marines:
“It’s terrible, but it comes with the territory,” said Carl Dreibelbis, 52, an Oceanside native who served in the Navy and said members of his family have fought in every U.S. war since the American Revolution.
“I’m afraid that when people hear this, their inclinations will be to retreat. But I say charge,” Dreibelbis said.
And these incredibly moving details from a story on the Glendale train derailment:
Costco employee Hugo Moran said an elderly man covered in blood and soot and with apparent broken arms and legs was pulled out of the wreckage but died soon after. Before he died, he thanked his rescuers and asked them to pray for him.
Another trapped man had used his own blood to write a note on a seat bottom. Using the heart symbol, he wrote “I love my kids” and “I love Leslie.”
The man’s identity wasn’t known, but Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Capt. Rex Vilaubi said he was removed from the wreckage alive.
