REMEMBERING DAVID BLOOM

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 4, 2005 04:30 PM

It’s not online, but Ladies’ Home Journal has an incredibly moving article on the wife and children of the late NBC reporter David Bloom. Bloom died in Iraq last year due to DVT–deep vein thrombosis–brought on by sleeping cramped up in a tank. Next month is DVT awareness month, and Bloom’s wife, Lisa, is helping to spread the word.

The article gives an update on Bloom’s three daughters and one anecdote had me in tears. The older twin daughters came home saddened one day after learning that a “father-daughter dance” would be held at their school. The daughters thought they wouldn’t be able to go, but Bloom’s brother and an NBC colleague stepped forward to escort the girls. On the night of the dance, Mrs. Bloom mentioned that Tom Brokaw sent the girls a special note and a dozen pink roses.

A lovely, lovely gesture.

Bloom’s alma mater, Pitzer College, is raising money for a memorial scholarship here.
