BELTWAY BUZZ: DNI PICK
New kid on the blog block, Eric Pfeiffer at NRO’s Beltway Buzz, says President Bush will name the Director of National Intelligence today. AP story here.
Among those thought to be in the running are White House homeland security adviser Fran Townsend, Army Gen. Tommy Franks, the retired commander of U.S. Central Command, National Security Agency head Lt. Gen. Michael Hayden and CIA Director Porter Goss.
Announcement expected at 10am.
ABC sez it’s John Negroponte.
10:02AM President Bush: “…intelligence is our first line of defense..As DNI, John will lead a unified intelligence community…[he will] ensure the sharing of information between agencies…
National Security Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael Hayden named as Negroponte’s deputy.
They better take a look at this.
And look for the Dems to rehash this.
Arnaud de Borchgrave calls Negroponte “a remarkably felicitous” choice.
