CHOICEPOINT AND THE IDENTITY THEFT CRISIS

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 22, 2005 10:04 AM

I’ve been sifting through tons of stories about the Choicepoint identity theft debacle.
ZDNet has a good overview and the Washington Post reports today on how the ID theft scam that rocked Choicepoint affected some 4,500 residents in the Beltway area. More about the Nigerian con artist who participated in the ID theft ring (he was charged with six felony counts) here.

Law professor Jonathan Turley has a piece in USA Today sharing his own experience with ID theft.

Blogger Trey Jackson, who works in the credit industry, shares his concerns about Choicepoint’s relationship with the Department of Homeland Security

Blogger Ed Foster mulls over legislative and regulatory proposals on the table.

More on Washington’s role in investigating the scandal here.

Update: Rob at Say Anything, who is a private investigator, has an important perspective on the legislative juggernaut. See his cautionary notes here and here.
