BREAK IN THE BTK SERIAL KILLER CASE?
Various news outlets are reporting on the possible arrest of a “person of interest” in the BTK serial killer case in Kansas.
NBC affiliate KSN-TV reported that a number of law enforcement personnel, including members of the Wichita Police Department bomb squad, had descended on a residence in Park City, where the person lives.
No further information on who lives in the house or how he or she was thought to be connected to the case was immediately available.
The BTK— the initials of the killer’s self-coined nickname stand for “Bind, Torture, Kill” — recently mailed at least three packages containing jewelry recently that the killer indicated were taken from victims.
Along with a padded manila envelope that was sent to KSAS-TV in Wichita, the communications were a cereal box found in a rural area northwest of Wichita in late January and a package found a few days later that police identified only as Communication No. 7.
All were sent to the FBI for analysis, said police Lt. Ken Landwehr, commander of the BTK task force.
A previous arrest in December caused a media frenzy, but the individual was eliminated as a suspect.
This site–a blog dedicated to the BTK murders–has tons of details on the most recent communications between BTK and the media and police, as well as a history, case resources, and legal overview.
FYI, the Kansas Supreme Court overturned the state’s death penalty law late last year.
