THE LOS ANGELES TIMES‘ WEAK CORRECTION
The Los Angeles Times runs a lame correction regarding its Eason Jordan coverage. Reminds me of Slate’s awful correction a few months ago. What is the point of running a correction if the correction is as bad as the original error?
MINORITY SET-ASIDES AND STADIUM SUBSIDIES
Ever wonder why so many liberal politicians support public subsidies for professional sports stadiums? Here is one reason: More than a dozen black and Hispanic leaders endorsed the West Side football stadium yesterday amid a “historic” deal with the Jets to ensure that minority- and women-owned firms get a share of the construction contracts. Jets [...]
THE IMPACT OF IMMIGRATION ON WAGES IN ARKANSAS
The news side of the Wall Street Journal has conceded that immigration depresses wages among blue-collar workers. Here’s an excerpt: Dale Baughman, who has lived in Northwest Arkansas all his life, has had a different experience. Three years ago, the BB-gun manufacturing plant where he worked for 29 years closed and he lost an $18.50-an- [...]
BRITAIN’S GREAT IMMIGRATION DEBATE
David Orland of Res Ipsa Loquitur has a good rundown of the immigration debate in Britain.
LEFTISTS GONE BANANAS!
Didja hear about the hypersensitive woman who accused a cop of racism last month during a Martin Luther King Day event because he ate a banana? Not making it up. Read more at Rambling’s Journal with a hat tip to one of my favorite guys, Neal Boortz. The ululations of the aggrieved never cease…
DEFEND THE DEFENDERS
Washington Times reporter Rowan Scarborough had a troubling story in today’s paper about a Marine who may face the death penalty for killing two Iraqi insurgents in the heat of battle in a terrorist-infested town near Baghdad. The young Marine is 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano, and his defenders say that: [T]he two Iraqis who came [...]
PHILADELPHIA FEVER: THE MUMIA PARADE
My birthplace, Philadelphia, threw a welcome party over the weekend for French leftists who are infatuated with convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal. You are not going to believe the gifts the city showered on their French visitors: Liberty bells. That’s right. LIBERTY BELLS! From the Philly Daily News: Mjenzi Traylor, the city’s first deputy director [...]
GOOGLE’S DEMOCRATS
From USA Today: Google employees gave $207,650 to federal candidates for last year’s elections, up from just $250 in 2000 when it was still a start-up. And 98% went to Democrats, the biggest share among top tech donors, a new USA TODAY campaign finance analysis shows. (Hat tip: reader Raymond L. Konkle.) Previously: Google News: [...]
WHERE IN THE WORLD
Chaos at Malkin Central! Playing Dr. Mom today with two sick kids and flu-ridden hubby. Will be on the Laura Ingraham show in a couple of minutes to talk blogosphere and all things Eason with substitute host Larry Marino. Tune in and you might hear the baby singing in the background to Elmo.
THE MSM AND THE “LYNCH MOB” MEME
In case you were stuck in the remotest corner of the Himalayas over the weekend, CNN exec Eason Jordan resigned Friday night. Which can mean only one thing…time for a bitter MSM backlash against the blogosphere! Here’s my column for the N.Y. Post today tackling the “lynch mob/bloodhounds/fill-in-the-ad-hominem-here” meme that started spreading over the weekend. [...]

The head of the Moroccan contingent of UN peacekeepers and his deputy have also been canned. Now, let’s move on to U.N. headquarters. Kofi? Hat tip: Wes Roth *** Previous: Who is Didier Bourguet? SEND YOUR PRAYERS
…to indefatigable blogger-extraordinaire Ed Morrissey and his wife, who will be undergoing a pancreas transplant tonight or tomorrow morning.
Another cost of uncontrolled immigration
The Washington Times ran a special investigative report today on the rise of contagious and other diseases in the U.S. that have been imported from southeast Asia and Latin America. It’s an interesting read. Here’s the intro: Contagious diseases are entering the United States because of immigrants, illegal aliens, refugees and travelers, and World Health [...]
GRAMMYBLOGGING
Just put the kids to bed and was able to watch the Alicia Keys/Jamie Foxx duet. Suh-weet. Foxx has come a long way from those Wanda skits. Glad to see him shining. Blogcritics has predictions. Wizbang is liveblogging. I’m amazed the Grammy organizers approved the southern rock tribute with Lynyrd Skynyrd. I wonder if the [...]
SHOOTOUT AT KINGSTON, N.Y., MALL
There was a shootout at the Hudson Valley Mall in Kingston, N.Y., this afternoon. At least two and possibly three gunmen reportedly opened fire. Reuters reports that three to ten people were wounded. The Times Herald-Record of Middletown, N.Y. reports that a U.S. Army recruiter was shot, and may have been targeted. (Hat tip: Ed [...]
GO, AMBRA, GO
Last month, I told you about one of my favorite bloggers, Ambra Nykol, who was fired from her job for blogging. I said the MSM should hire her…and someone listened. She’s now a guest columnist for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Good on the P-I. Let’s hope this becomes a trend.
(SOMEWHAT) RELIABLE SOURCES
Trey Jackson has the video of Howard Kurtz’s treatment of the Eason Jordan resignation, among other things. Blogger Jeff Jarvis did an excellent job. Bill Press was an annoyance. Captain’s Quarters liveblogged it. As Jarvis said: “The story’s not over.” Update: Transcript is here.

EASONGATE: THE MSM STRIKES BACK
As noted below, CNN officials are still in full-blown spin mode regarding the events that led to Eason Jordan’s resignation. They aren’t the only ones. Check out this attack on bloggers by Bertrand Pecquerie (bpecquerie@wan.asso.fr), the Director of the World Editors Forum, the organization for editors within the World Association of Newspapers (WAN): Eason Jordan [...]
EASONGATE: CNN STILL IN SPIN MODE
The Atlanta Journal Constitution has published a fascinating article about Eason Jordan’s resignation. It contains statements by several current and former CNN employees defending Jordan and denouncing bloggers who called attention to his remarks in Davos. To read it you have to register or use bugmenot to get log in information. Here are some excerpts, [...]
WHO IS DIDIER BOURGUET?
Source: ABC News This is Didier Bourguet. He’s a United Nations senior official from France accused of running an Internet pedophile ring in the Congo, where the U.N. was supposed to be protecting vulnerable people. Last night on ABC’s 20/20, one of the MSM’s best investigative reporters, Brian Ross, broadcast a damning segment on Bourguet [...]
Mom of the day
We’ll have to see if this story holds up, but it’s amazing if true: Mom-to-be kills alleged knife attacker FT. MITCHELL, Ky. — A nine-months’ pregnant woman fought off and killed a knife-wielding woman who may have been trying to steal the baby, police said Friday. Police said Sarah Brady, 26, acted in self-defense in [...]
EASONGATE: A RETROSPECTIVE
For those of us in the information business, this is truly an earth-shaking time. Who would have imagined that the downfall of one of the world’s most powerful news executives would be precipitated by an ordinary citizen blogging his eyewitness report at Davos in the wee hours of the morning on Jan. 27? It’s simply [...]

Checking it out… Update: Ponnuru got the scoop, now AP is reporting it: CNN News Executive Eason Jordan Quits DAVID BAUDER Associated Press NEW YORK – CNN chief news executive Eason Jordan quit Friday amidst a furor over remarks he made in Switzerland last month about [...]
THE EASONTHING CONTINUED
Easongate, Eason’s Fables, Easonquiddick…whatever you want to call it, it’s still alive. Eason Jordan is still hiding behind CNN spin doctors. Still no transcript. Still no tape. It’s not just right-wing hounds who are “baying.” Boston Phoenix writer Dan Kennedy wants to see it. Jay Rosen and Captain’s Quarters, and LGF tackle the Wall Street [...]
GOOD WEEKEND TV
This Wall Street Journal editorial board show on PBS with guest Heather Mac Donald, one of my favorite writers, should be interesting. I wonder if this will come up.
