REACTING TO PHILIP BENNETT

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 14, 2005 09:58 AM

The People’s Daily Online interview of Washington Post managing editor Philip Bennett, which I shined light on last week, is getting quite a bit of attention now thanks to a Drudge link. Here are some reactions from around the ’sphere:

- Scott Johnson, Power Line, “If the transcript accurately reflects the mixture of Bennett’s own deep thoughts with a generous dollop of toadying, this prominent American journalist has disgraced himself.”

- Ed Morrissey, Captain’s Quarters, “Like Michelle, I wonder how much of this interview got properly transcribed and translated into English, and how much the censors cut out. If it is accurate, then Bennett provides another example of the clueless media filters that effectively regulated news content until the advent of the blogosphere.”

- Rand Holman, The Daily Polemic, “I am just astounded…and not just a little angered, when reading his comments….isn’t this absolutely disturbing, but probably, for a lot us, not surprising feedback, about what goes through the minds of the higher echelons of the news rooms of our MSM?”

- Spatula City BBS, “Their readership keeps declining, ratings are spiraling downward, their credibility has more holes in it than a block of Swiss cheese, and yet they still insist on verbally shooting themselves in the foot… This time, it’s the Washington Pissed Post and their dumb-assed excuse-for-a-managing editor, Philip Bennett, in an interview with the Chinese rag People’s Daily.”

- Spinbadz Own, “Perusing The Washington Post Managing Editor’s interview with the China People’s Daily, one gets the impression of a guy who is so tied up inside an anti-Republican echo chamber that he may have no idea of how hostile and bemuddled his views appear to the outsider.”

- CDR Salamander, “you can get off your knees now, Yong Tang is done.”
