OKLAHOMA CITY: 10 YEARS LATER

CHARLES H. PORTER IV/Associated Press
Hard to believe it has been a decade since the Oklahoma City bombing. The Oklahoma City National Memorial is here. At 9:03am, the names of the 168 murdered in the domestic terrorist attack will be read aloud at the site. God rest their souls.
There’s an update on the family of Baylee Almon, the baby pictured above in Charles Porter’s Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photo, here. Not many remember, but liberal cartoonist Steve Benson exploited Baylee’s image in a disgusting 1997 parody of the photo in order to slam death penalty proponents.
Vice President Dick Cheney, former president Bill Clinton, and NBC’s Brian Williams will all be in Oklahoma City for the events.
Highlighting right-wing militia groups “in disarray,” ABC News asks “Is there still a threat?” You’ll be hearing a lot today from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which admits that the militia movement is all but dead, but persists in hyping fear about purported racist hate groups–among which the SPLC lumps pro-immigration enforcement organizations.
Andrew Cline in the American Spectator online has an excellent piece on left-wing versus right-wing terrorism.
It is also the anniversary of the Waco siege and murders, which will go little noticed today.
Finally, there is still lots of talk about possible al Qaeda/OKC links. (You remember the buzz about John Doe No. 2 and Jose Padilla.) Investigative journalist Jayna Davis’s site on the subject is here.

Others blogging…
Mike of Mike’s Noise, an OKC resident, is blogging all about the anniversary and sharing his album of photos taken at the Murrah building just a few days after the attack.
