HOLD THEIR FEET TO THE FIRE
Today is the launch of an extraordinary grass-roots lobbying campaign in Washington. “Hold Their Feet to the Fire”, led by veteran conservative San Diego radio talk show host Roger Hedgecock, is putting pressure on lawmakers in both parties to secure the borders and enforce immigration law. A rally at Lafayette Park and lobbying on Capitol Hill kicked off at 9am.
Among those joining Roger in D.C., along with hundreds of their listeners:
John and Ken (KFI, Los Angeles)
Bruce Jacobs (KFYI, Phoenix)
Mike Siegel (KTTH, Seattle)
Lars Larson (Westwood One)
Melanie Morgan (KSFO, San Francisco)
Michael Graham (WMAL, Washington DC)
Alan Nathan (Radio America)
Blanquita Cullum (Radio America)
Jane Silk (Radio America)
Michael Smerconish (WPHT, Philadelphia)
Phil Valentine (WTN, Nashville)
Terry Anderson (Terry Anderson Show)
With the exception of Alan Nathan and John and Ken, these talk show hosts putting pressure on the Bush administration are all staunch conservatives. The GOP elite has been covering its ears and eyes– “La La La, I can’t hear you,” like Mark Steyn says–to drown out rising frustration and anger on the right with Bush’s open-borders policies. Republican leaders can ill afford to do so now with so many party faithful now pounding on their doors–and with Democrats starting to sniff the administration’s odor of vulnerability on the issue.
Stay tuned here and at The Immigration Blog for much more coverage of the campaign and related issues.
