The 7/7 attacks: Blair and Bush statements at the G-8 summit
808am EST. Tony Blair statement at G-8. We condemn utterly these barbaric attacks…all of our countries have suffered from the violent impact of terrorism…We are united in our resolve…to defeat this terrorism…an attack on civilized people everywhere…Here are at this summit leaders are striving to combat poverty and improve human life…The perpetrators of this attack are intent on destroying human life.
We shall prevail and they shall not.
833am EST. President Bush reports on Blair’s departure. I’ve been in contact with our Department of Homeland Security folks…instructed them to be extra-vigilant. Echoes Blair’s statement contrasting G-8 attendees and terrorists.
The contrast couldn’t be clearer between those who care about human rights and human liberty and those who kill.
We will not yield to these people….We will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm the ideology of hate.
Update: Will Franklin compares and contrasts Bush and Blair’s statements.
