DISTORTING GITMO AGAIN

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 19, 2005 09:21 AM

“Pentagon to Go Forward With Military Tribunals,” reports the Los Angeles Times. “Pentagon to start Guantanamo military commissions,” reports the Financial Times. “Military tribunals to begin for Gitmo detainees,” reports the Washington Times.

These headlines imply that military tribunals will, for the first time, be initiated for the detainees at Guantanamo Bay. But as the Pentagon has fruitlessly noted, each and every detainee at Guantanamo Bay has already had a combatant status review tribunal. Last Friday’s ruling by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals allows the military to resume trials for a subset of detainees who have been charged with war crimes. The trials were halted last fall by a federal judge who proclaimed that the tribunals were unconstitutional.
