AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A STAND

Polipundit, who is a recent legal immigrant with very strong opinions on immigration, is encouraging readers to make a bold statement on the issue by supporting Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minutemen, in his run for the U.S. Congress.

There’s a special election to fill the Congressional seat left open when Rep. Chris Cox (R-CA) accepted the job of SEC Chairman. The election is on October 6. If no candidate gets a majority of the votes, then there’ll be a run-off election with the top vote getter from every party.

The seat is safely Republican. Ho hum so far. But what’s special is that Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minutemen, is running for the seat. He’s running as a member of the American Independence Party, not as a Republican. So he’s almost certain to get past the October 6 election, and make it to the general election run-off.

This presents an unique opportunity to have our voices heard on the issue of illegal immigration. The most prominent Republican running for the seat is State Senator John Campbell, who has voted to give in-state tuition rates at California colleges to illegal immigrants. If Campbell gets elected to Congress, he will further weaken our borders and encourage the illegal invasion of America.

He then provides a link for those wishing to contribute to Gilchrist’s campaign.

Immigration could easily be the defining issue in the 2006 and 2008 elections and Republicans that do not make a strong stand on this issue are likely to pay a heavy price.

UPDATE: The more news stories that appear like this one and this one, the more pressure is going to be put on politicians to address the illegal immigration problem.
