AUSSIE BUG HUNTERS WIN NOBEL PRIZE
Congratulations to Barry J. Marshall and J. Robin Warren, winners of the 2005 Nobel Prize in physiology/medicine. The two Australians won the prize for their discovery that Helicobacter pylori–not stress and spicy foods–are responsible for many ulcers. As the Syndey Morning Herald noted in a 1997 profile, few believed the duo until Marshall swallowed broth containing the microbe to prove it causes disease.
