GAS PRICES DIP, MEDIA HYSTERIA VANISHES
Blogger Hank Osborne notes gas prices are under $2.00 in his neck of the woods.
And, the AP notes crude is under $56 a barrel, its lowest level in many months.
Where’s the media hysteria now? Nothing to panic us over, so they’ve taken their marbles and gone home.
SHOWDOWN
Drudge in red alert mode:
IT’S A GO: IRAQ WAR SHOWDOWN IN CONGRESS: VOTE ON TROOP PULLOUT
Seems like a smart, if risky GOP move. Nice way to force Dems to make a decision on the record.
Vote coming up in just over an hour.
AP story now on the wire.
SAUDI PRINCE’S POSH ‘PRISON’
Yesterday’s revelation that a Saudi prince would serve just one year for the drunk-driving murder of a young Massachusetts father continues to infuriate the region today.
Worse yet, he’s been allowed to pick his prison, choosing a posh Martha’s Vineyard setting.
Get a load of today’s Boston Herald update, be sure to check out the photo [...]

Much thanks to Michelle for letting me guest blog here this week and to her wonderful readers for their kind emails. If you enjoyed my posts here this week, please visit Polipundit, where I blog daily along with four guys that always have something interesting to say.

NOT HARDLINE ENOUGH FOR MSNBC?
Is liberal former San Francisco Supervisor Angela Alioto not extreme enough for MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann?
According to Alioto, after refusing to call for Bill O’Reilly’s outright sacking from the FOX News Channel over recent comments about the city, she was bumped from “Countdown”.
See the full story here at the Radio Equalizer.
REP. JOHN MURTHA
was against the war before he was against it.
PRESSURE ON BLACKS TO ALL THINK ALIKE PAYS OFF
LaShawn Barber revisits the story of a mixed-race student at Winthrop University who was so hounded for expressing opinions outside the accepted boundaries for “black think” that she has decided to withdraw from the school. It is such a shame that it is impossible to have a civil discussion on race. You would [...]
HOUSE WANTS 9TH CIRCUIT TO RECONSIDER CASE
The US House is asserting its right to ask federal courts to reconsider bad decisions–in this case, it’s the 9th Circus and a pernicious case of overreach in public schools that the 9th allowed to stand.

A WEIRD DAY ON CAPE COD BAY
Having been just a few miles from California’s 7.1 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake epicenter in 1989 and in Seattle during the 2001 Nisqually shaker, would you expect me to laugh off a mere 2.5 baby rattle?
No matter how small, one simply doesn’t expect earthquakes in Southeast Massachusetts. With a rolling sensation, this one felt more [...]
ODDS AND ENDS
The Astute Blogger wonders why the liberals and the media just can’t seem to get excited about burned and defiled churches in France the same way that they get excited when a mosque is defiled.
Michael Barone writes on the different recollections of Bob Woodward and Walter Pincus and what that says about the CIA.
But you [...]
ON THE ROAD: WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH ITHACA?
Hi, everyone! Hope you have been enjoying the guest-bloggers. Bryan, Lorie, Betsy, and Brian will keep things rocking and rolling through Friday night. I’ve been in six different airports the past three days–exhausted–and will be tied up most of the day on more book flogging. Will try and pop in with a few posts when [...]
JUST GOOGLE IT–UPDATE
The response to the Just Google It graphics has been amazing. Many blogs have taken the graphics and posted them on their sites. I actually don’t have a straightforward way of keeping track of just how many there are, but I’m sure the number is over 100 now. I’ve been looking for [...]
CAN YOU HELP GET A WHEELCHAIR FOR THIS MAN?
Matt, a soldier serving in Iraq, blogs about an Iraqi translator who has been maimed by a terrorist attack and needs a wheelchair. Right now, he is being carried around by his family in a folding chair. Bloggers are trying either to collect enough money to buy him a chair. If you’re [...]
GET THIS MAN A SPINE TRANSPLANT
Right Side Redux has the video of Senator Frist’s response to a question that starts off with Harry Potter and ends up asking when the GOP in the Senate is going to get some backbone. It’s a cute question and Frist answers it with boilerplate about being a leader of a conservative movement, yadda, [...]
WILSON QUESTION’S WOODWARD’S HONESTY
Yeah, let that sink for a minute. Then read this:
“It certainly gives the appearance of a conflict of interest. He was taking an advocacy position when he was a party to it,” Wilson said.
Hm. So you can’t take an advocacy position when you’re a party to a situation. Like, say, going on [...]
BOOGIE TO BAGHDAD
When Richard Clarke was a hawk, he feared that if the US pushed bin Laden too hard in Afghanistan, he would run to Saddam’s waiting embrace:
In case you don’t remember, “Boogie to Baghdad” is the phrase that Richard Clarke, when he was the top White House counterterrorism official during the Clinton administration, used to express [...]
DISGRACEFUL AND JUST PLAIN DUMB
Was once in thirty years not enough? Like the deadly black mold in New Orleans, the calls to cut and run in Iraq are spreading.
Warning that other global threats “cannot be ignored,” Rep. John Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, a leading adviser on defense issues, called on Thursday for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from [...]
SAUDI ROYAL GETS THE KENNEDY TREATMENT
At least on the legislative and judicial levels, a Massachusetts newcomer quickly learns the state sometimes resembles a banana republic. American-style justice can be elusive.
That’s what makes Gov. Mitt Romney’s reform agenda so difficult to implement: it might be easier to end corruption in Nigeria than the Democrat-ruled Bay State. That Rhode Island is even [...]
THE NEXT BIG NATION-STATE WAR
will probably take place in South America, as Venezuela uses its oil wealth to bully, divide and conquer its neighbors. And America is already all but disarmed for the fight.
And if you think we have an illegal immigration problem now…
FRANK J. ON BOSTON LEGAL
This has to be one of the signs of the apocalypse: Frank J. of IMAO has written a serious post. It’s actually more like a column. And as great a comedy writer we all know he is, this serious post is just as good.
It touches one of the two themes I’ve been running [...]
IF I MAY DO A LITTLE NEPO-BLOGGING…
My daughter has a column up at Tech Central Station about good news from New Orleans concerning charter schools.
Katrina made the already-monumental task facing Alvarez & Marsal even more difficult and urgent. They may be able to improve the system in the long run, but certainly not with the speed that the post-Katrina reconstruction demands; [...]
NBC LAW N ORDER DEFAMER
Yesterday I linked to a post about NBC’s frighteningly popular Law N Order and its smearing of the Minutemen. Debbie Schlussel watched the show so you didn’t have to, and says that the network spread the defaming all around the right:
On Wednesday Night’s NBC line-up, Christians were portrayed as violent fanatics who try to [...]
MISCELLANEOUS STUFF OUT THERE TODAY
John McCain gets one exactly right.
The Wall Street Journal thinks that Joanne Jacobs’ new book should be a Hollywood movie.
Tom Maguire wonders if Patrick Fitzgerald will now admit that he was wrong about indicting Scooter Libby. I doubt that Fitzgerald will, but this Woodward story sure has given Libby’s defense team some new material [...]
SURPRISE, SURPRISE: MORE “MISTAKES” IN A COLUMN ON THE NYT EDITORIAL PAGE
John in Carolina has done the historical research to show that an editorial that appeared in the New York Times in June included a gratuitous lie about historical figures in order to make a tendentious point about the army today. I don’t think men like Eisenhower, Patton, or Marshall would appreciate having their biographies [...]
WHERE THE WMDS WENT
Scott Johnson links to a very interesting interview at Frontpage with a former UNSCOM inspector, Bill Tierney. This will serve as the second installment of my series of posts linking to information that can serve as ammunition for the President to use in his effort to remind the public of the situation that existed [...]
EVIL REGIMES SET TO TOPPLE?
Keep a sharp eye on fresh developments in both Canada and Cuba, two countries with rogue, corrupt and repressive regimes that don’t know when to cut their losses and leave town.
First, to Cuber, where new reports on Fidel’s health are generating new attention in diplomatic circles, as well as South Florida. The 80-year-old thuggish [...]
