WILDFIRE VICTIMS: HOW TO HELP
A year ago this month, bloggers were busy raising money for victims of the Indonesian tsunami disaster. This week, there are hundreds of families in need much closer to home as a result of the wildfires ravaging Oklahoma and Texas. New Mexico has also been affected.
In Cross Plains, Texas, 116 homes have been destroyed, 7,665 acres have burned, and two people have died. A local bank is accepting cash donations:
City of Cross Plains Fire Relief Fund
c/o Texas Heritage Bank
PO Box 699
Cross Plains, TX 76443
In Oklahoma, the local charity Feed the Children is collecting goods and supplies.
Let me know if you hear of any other charity drives.

FYI, reader Shane B. writes:
Feed The Children spends only 18% of its cash budget on program services and spends 60% on direct mail and television and radio ads!
Here’s a link where you can learn about their many, many other problems:
There are great charities in Oklahoma. Feed The Children is not one of them.
Aside from the fact that no children will be starving due to the fires, I’m
sure there are better places to send your readers. Please guide people to the Red Cross or Salvation Army instead.
