VIDEO/PHOTO ESSAY: VIVA LA RAZA IN D.C.

So, my Sony Handycam and I attended the illegal alien demonstration in D.C. yesterday. Here are some of the more interesting moments captured on tape of what I saw at the revolucion:

signguy.jpg
The goofy, out-of-place-looking, non-Spanish speaker on the right was standing on a street corner with a bunch of astroturf “homemade” signs written in Spanish. He handed them out to Latino protesters on their way to the main venue on the Mall. I asked the sign guy what organization he was with and he stopped me from taping him. Off-camera he told me he didn’t know where the signs came from (uh-huh) and that he had no idea what they said (that I believe). Watch the clip (.wmv file).

Some black radicals, fists a-waving, tried to get the protesters worked up: “Revolucion!” I was glad to hear the passers-by chuckling at the fools. Watch the clip.

mall.jpg

Here’s the Mall about an hour before the official start.

buses.jpg

Spotted several bright yellow government school buses. (Didn’t get it on tape, but as I was driving home I noted that one of the school buses shuttling protesters had “McLean, Va.” painted on the side. Taxpayers in that town might want to give their school board a call. Another charter bus carrying marchers was owned by Crown.)

This was the scene near the front of the main stage. A lot of shoving and shouting and “Si, se puedes!” Watch the clip.

dcmain002.jpg

A protest organizer on the main stage led the crowd in English rehearsals of the Pledge of Allegiance. He definitely needed the practice: “One nation, undivisible (sic)…” Watch the clip.

Two of my favorite moments:

seiu003.jpg

A few hapless SEIU organizers tried and failed to lead protesters streaming onto the mall with clumsily shouted Spanish chants…

seiu2.jpg

…and another SEIU leader failed to get them to follow his traffic signals. Watch the clip.

dobbs002.jpg

Meanwhile, someone in the crowd targeted CNN’s Lou Dobbs, bane of the open borders left and right.

And some bilingual LaRouchies turned up.

While the mainstream media focused on protesters who wrapped themselves in red, white, and blue…

cheflag.jpg

…the inevitable Che cultists marched defiantly at the back of the pack. Watch the clip.

There were, of course, no identifiable ICE agents or any other DHS personnel in sight. All in all, it was a great day to be an illegal alien in the nation’s capital. As these happy young protesters (perhaps earning school credit?) put it: “Viva La Raza!” Watch the clip.

“Long live the Race!”

What’s so pro-American about that?

Tim Graham dissects the Washington Post open-borders publicity machine. Here are the closing paragraphs of the Post’s fair and balanced coverage:

The group Arabs for Immigrant Rights also participated. Rami El-Amine, an information technology worker for the federal government, formed the group two weeks ago to ensure that Arab Americans would be represented at the rally. Badia Albanna, 32, of Takoma Park brought her 4-month-old daughter, Sama Jahmila, who was wearing a pink shirt with a white peace sign.

“It’s her third march of the year,” Albanna said. “She’s got to learn to stand up for stuff, you know? As Arab Americans, our community has been demonized since the terrorist attacks,” she said.

“The Latino struggle is similar to ours. We need to stick together, support each other.”

Laura Castro said she has begun to think that way, too.

An 18-year-old in stylish sunglasses, she wandered away from the stage, her sign held high above her head. Castro’s reasons to be proud were listed on her homemade sign: “Current HS GPA: 4.13, Class Rank: 14 out of 386, Pres. of Spanish Club . . . National Honor Society . . . Am I a criminal?”

Castro is in the United States illegally. Having come from Colombia six years ago to live with her mother in Chesterfield, Va., she overstayed her visa and never returned home. That means she has no valid Virginia driver’s license. She will start at Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall, studying toward her goal of becoming a doctor. She will pay out-of-state tuition, and she will not receive any scholarships or grants.

“Because of my status,” she said.

But Castro also has had a realization: The issue of immigration has inspired her to speak out and unite her Latino friends, too.

“It used to be like, ‘I’m Colombian’ or ‘I’m from Mexico,’ ” she said. “Now, it’s like, ‘I’m Hispanic, I’m Hispanic.’ “

I had to leave before the English-language bloviations began. The Political Pit Bull has C-SPAN segments of illegal alien voter recruitment leader Teddy Kennedy…

…and one Imam Johari Abdul-Malik.

Ian Schwartz was also in D.C. My favorite of his photos:

Robert Bluey was there, too. And Rep. Jack Kingston’s blog has photos.

J.D. Johannes directs us to video of a Bush-bashing gathering in Kansas.

Byron D. attended the Seattle anti-immigration enforcement march. Excellent photos. And there was Che again

Junkyard Blog has vivid photos from the Dallas insurrection.

Jeff Harrell blogged his reaction on the Mall:

“It was just like Cinco de Mayo, only with less food and more intimidation.”
