CARTOON JIHAD IN PAKISTAN
Nordish reports on our “friends” in Pakistan, where the country’s high court is going after Internet service providers, foreign newspapers, and publishers who have displayed the Mohammed cartoons:
Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered that a case be filed against the chairman of the country’s telecommunication authority and other officials for failing to block the showing of Danish newspaper cartoons caricaturising Prophet Muhammad.
The apex court on Monday also ordered that a case be filed under section 295C of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the cartoonist, foreign newspapers and publishers.
“The police should register the petitioner’s case under section 295C of the PPC in the jurisdiction where the petitioner resides,” said the chief justice while ruling on a petition moved by Maulvi Iqbal Haider, the Awami Himayat Tehreek chairman, the Daily Times reported.
Section 295C prescribes the death sentence for offenders.
Tracy Twyman of Plus + Ultra, one of the American bloggers banned in Pakistan, wants her court summons.
