One police officer killed, several others injured in a bloody shootout at the Chantilly police station in Fairfax County. Details still sketchy but one sniper may be on the loose.

CNN:

Two police officers are in critical condition after a shooting Monday at a police station in Fairfax County, Virginia, an FBI source told CNN.

A male suspect was shot and killed in the incident, which took place at about 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Sully District Station, in the west of the county, Fairfax County police spokesman Richard Henry said.

Police did not comment on the condition of the wounded, but an FBI official told CNN the officers were in critical condition.

The FBI official and a Fairfax County police source said a second suspect fled the scene of the shooting and was being sought.

WaPo:

A Fairfax County police detective was killed and two other officers were wounded this afternoon after a gunman opened fire in the parking lot during a shift change at the Sully District police station in Chantilly, law enforcement officials said. A civilian police dispatcher also was wounded.

The gunman was killed in the shootout with police, the sources said. Although in early reports police said two gunmen were involved in the shooting, shortly after 6 p.m. officials said they had not been able to confirm that a second person was involved.

Immediately after the shooting, police launched a search for other possible suspects.

The gunman came from the woods carrying an automatic or semiautomatic weapon shortly before 4 p.m.

According to sources close to the investigation the dead suspect is an 18-year-old man from Chantilly who has been previously arrested on carjacking charges in Montgomery County.

Update from Fairfax County Times:

Three people were shot outside the Sully District Police Station, at 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly around 3:30 p.m Monday, Fairfax County police said.

Two police officers and one suspect were shot, according to police spokeswoman Beth Underhill at an evening news conference. The officers are being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital, which is under heightened security, she said.

Underhill would not provide any other information or confirm reports that one officer had died.

In an interview on NBC Channel 4 news, Fairfax County board Chairman Gerry Connolly (D-at large) said he was told that a female detective had died, as had the suspected shooter.

Police were also looking for a white male, a possible accomplice in the shooting, a white man driving a Ford F250 with Virginia license plate JPK-8892. There were unconfirmed reports that the truck was found abandoned.
