John Edwards, the 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate, says his vote on the Iraq war was a mistake.
Edwards, who essentially rose to prominence because of his pretty face and his bouncy hair, has now come full-circle on his Iraq position.
Edwards didn’t just vote to authorize force, he was one of the co-sponsors of the resolution, at a time, of course, when the America people strongly supported the idea of invading Iraq. Then, he voted against funding the war, probably because the war was unpopular during the 2004 election with his lefty base. And now, with his eyes fixed on the poll numbers and delusions of a 2008 run for the presidency in his head, Edwards regrets his original vote. How principled.
He might be too late to get in good with the real kooks in his party, though–Michael Moore says that he won’t be supporting anyone that supported the war. Of course, since Moore’s support usually marks the candidacy as dead on arrival, that might not be the worst thing for little John.[madmimi id=111506] blog comments powered by Disqus
