James Kim, R.I.P.
Very sad news: The body of C-NET editor James Kim has been found in the Oregon woods. C-NET coverage here.
San Francisco Chronicle reports:
James Kim, missing in the southern Oregon mountains since he left his stranded family Saturday to look for help, was found dead today, authorities said.
A helicopter crew spotted his body face down in the woods of the Coast Range west of Grants Pass.
Kim, 35, had left his wife, Kati, and his two daughters Saturday morning where their car was stranded off a narrow road between Grants Pass and Gold Beach. He never returned, but left what authorities described as a trail of clothing and bits of an Oregon state map as clues to his location. The wife and children were found alive Monday.
Kim’s body was found at 12:03 p.m., said Undersheriff Brian Anderson, who broke down as he announced the news.
“We want the Kim family to know that we appreciate all their support,” Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings said. “We just want them to know our thoughts and prayers (are with them).”
Reader Bill:
It’s a tragedy for his wife and children, but as a father of two young children myself, I hurt for him, too. He never knew that his family had been found and probably died thinking that he had failed in his attempt to find help for them.
SFGate asks readers: Why did the story strike such a chord?
