What does Putin want?
Commentary magazine features a must-read lead article by Leon Aron on troubling re-nationalization developments in Russia.
Read it in light of the latest news of Russia’s designs on Shell. The Wall Street Journal puts it this way:
The authoritarian drift of Russia continues apace. On Monday the Kremlin managed to pull the rug out from under the largest foreign investment in the country, Royal Dutch Shell’s $20 billion oil and gas project off the Pacific island of Sakhalin. You might call it the economic version of Polonium 210.
Not good.
