Claim: iPod saves a soldier’s life
Here’s a photo of the soldier, Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division).
And here’s a close-up of the iPod.
Wow.
(Confirmation of Garrad’s identity and unit: Here’s an article quoting Sgt. Garrad in Tikrit from 2005.)

A commenter at Flickr writes:
The picture is cute, but the concept is ridiculous.
The bullet went through the iPod like a hot knife through butter. The vest stopped the slug.
The bullet only hit plastic and alumnimum casing. If it had hit the glass, or better yet, the hard drive platters, it might have been SLIGHTLY slowed. As it is, the iPod effect was somewhere between “irrelevant” and “nothing.”
Still, cool memento.
An e-mailer quips: “Is this covered by iPod’s warranty?”
