Michael Bloomberg “leaves” GOP

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 19, 2007 09:04 PM

He was always a Republican in name only, so I don’t know what the big deal is now. Slow news day, I guess. Plus, he’s the MSM Flavor of the Month. Yawn:

Michael R. Bloomberg, a longtime Democrat who switched to the Republican Party to run for mayor of New York City in 2001, announced this evening that he is changing his party status and registering as an independent…Mr. Bloomberg’s decision — the first change in party affiliation by a sitting New York City mayor since 1971, when John V. Lindsay switched from Republican to Democrat — immediately set off intense speculation that he will enter the 2008 presidential race as an independent.

Wake me up when the Big Nanny candidate’s 15 minutes in the national spotlight are over.

New Yawker AllahPundit hasn’t forgotten how Bloomberg responded to a minor crisis last year.

Don Surber dubs the NYC mayor “H. Ross Bloomberg.”

Sister Toldjah
is on my same wavelength: “This only makes it ‘official.’ Bloomberg left the party a long time ago. In fact, I’m not ever sure if he truly was a part of it.”

Bloomberg is a perfect example of 1st John 2:19 (look it up).

IMHO he wasn’t really even a RINO. They’re generally long-term members who oppose most of the party’s principles. Bloomberg joined the party solely because he knew he couldn’t get the Democrat nomination for mayor, while the Republican slot was more open due to term-limited Rudy. It was a flag of convenience, nothing more.

I think Mayor Nanny Bloomie is a very arrogant man. I also highly doubt he rides the subway that much. He’s the mayor, I want someone driving him around so he can work and make calls and stuff. New Yorkers shouldn’t want him wasting all that time on the subway.

We all have to wonder what Bloomberg is really thinking of with this congestion pricing tax scheme. Maybe he mostly just wants a new tax. Just wrap it up in ‘concern for the environment’, and then people can just demonize those who oppose it.

If he cares so much about traffic jams, congestion and air pollution, why does he let Park Avenue be blocked off? Why doesn’t he do anything about that?

It’s true, Pershing Square Restaurant blocks Park Avenue going South at 42nd St. for about 12 hours a day/5 months of the year! This Causes Massive Congestion and Air Pollution!

But apparently it does not bother NYC’s Nanny-in-Chief Mike “Congestion Pricing Tax” Bloomberg?

It certainly supports his claim that the city is hugely congested.
