Just a thought… I want to throw Nifong under the bus as much as everyone else, and, until now, I have been. Yet, he hasn’t been convicted formally as of today; to my knowledge, he hasn’t even been booked. Everybody who’s settling or is about to get sued regarding this case can tell us that chances are very small (really, really small but not zero) that we could be making their same mistake right now.

OK, enough of that. Assuming a conviction, I’ll be right there with all the rest of us in, figuratively speaking, throwing him under the bus. In the meantime, may his trial take every bit as long as the limbo through which he put these three guys… that suffering might even be worse than the jail itself.

I live in the beautiful, but corrupt state of NC – overtaxed and paralized by Democrats in power. Our hope was rekindled by John Edwards defeat as Senator and now Nifong (and everyone involved) are revealed for the kind of people they are. Prosecutors Sutton and Fitzgerald should be next.

James Felix it wasn’t ment as a joke. One of the unmentionable deterents to jail (besides the confinement) is that horrible things happen in prison.
This country holds together because we the people for the most part have at least some faith in the system. We even “forgive” the rich for getting off with good lawyers because if we were accused and were rich we could do the same. What we will not tolerate is when the government does knowingly does something like this.
Mike Nifong deserves every horrible thing that happens to him up to and including a visit late at night from “bubba”.

Criminal charges need to be brought against this guy. Its not just incompetent work on his part, he knowingly did the things he did. They need to make him pay in civil court and he needs to have criminal charges brought as well……he tried to destroy these kids’ lives.

They also need to go after Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton in civil court for slander and defamation of character!

Like others, I also wonder how many other people he has done this too. I think Crystal Gail Mangum should also be taken to task as well. She’s done this before to three other guys but guess they were of the same race so no harm no foul in someone’s book-not mine but she’s getting away with it again.
As for the gang of 88, I thought I read where the gang leader bugged out and went to some other school to do the same thing to someone else. I’m sure the gang of 88 won’t apologize because in their world, like Nifong’s they’re sure something happened in that restroom.
As for Nifong, I hope he goes to jail as well but won’t hold my breath.

My gut says lock him up but my mind says lets not go so far that legitimate cases can’t get the attention they deserve because DA’s are too fearful.

I think we’re a long way from that. All he had to do was follow procedure and he would OK right now.

Mr. Nifong needs to go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass go and do not collect $200.
I hope he gets a 350 lbs, tattooed, missing afront tooth cellmate named Bubba who thinks he looks “purdy cute”

I understand where you’re coming from, but rape isn’t funny. That our society ~~accepts~~ encourages it as a simple fact of life in prison says something very, very unflattering about us.

We should be trying to put an end to such barbarity. To stop joking about it is a required first step.

So why isn’t there a Gang of 88 rushing to explain to us what this case of prosecutorial misjustice tells us about the problems in our justice system? Are they basing class lectures around that topic? Are they putting this on their syllabus? Certainly, this verified example of injustice opens the door for a wide-ranging discussion of race, money, class, and the law that would benefit almost any liberal arts classroom.

Oh, wait, this isn’t the discussion they want to have. It doesn’t satify their narrow-minded viewpoints. It doesn’t justify their overhyped programs. And they don’t have any privileged oppressors to blame for this situation except Nifong and, well, themselves.

I was disappointed that the three innocent young men decided to settle with Duke, but on the other hand as a mom myself, I can understand why they would want to get on with their lives as quickly as possible.

In a perfect world, I would have loved to see the three young men and their lawyers tell Duke and the Gang of 88 to publish a public apology, and only then, after reading it, if it met their standards, would they even consider accepting the settlement with Duke.

We can only dream….

I lived in NC for a number of years, and I see this not entirely about politics and race: Nifong, a local yokel, saw an opportunity to lock up three priviledged Yankee boys while pandering to the locals. They’re still fighting the Civil War down there and I see this as proof. Red state or not, they don’t like us Yankees moving down there — the Confederacy lives!
