RCT-6 e-mail update: 4,900-plus
The other day, I passed along a request from the milbloggers at Blackfive to send an e-mail of support to the Regimental Combat Team 6 in Iraq. The team has now received 4,970 messages. Thanks to all of you for responding to the call. Grim has the update and a renewed push to reach the 6,000-mark and beyond–with some new incentives thrown in:
Sgt. Deboard writes this morning to tell us that we’re at 4,970 emails. The sudden jump — two days ago we were at 1,700 and slowing — has gotten him wondering just how many emails will really come in.
The Marines he’s been passing them out to are very pleased. They may not have time to write back, of course, but he wanted you to know it’s making a difference to them.
So much of a difference, in fact, that the RCT wants to do a little something to celebrate. They’ve decided to send a gift to the 6,000th person to email them.
They’ll fly an American flag at RCT-6 HQ, and them mail it to you. The flags will come with a certificate showing your name and the date on which it was flown. It’s the Regimental Combat Team’s way of showing you how much they appreciate all the support that has suddenly been flowing their way.
If they get 10,000 emails, they’ll do it again for the 10,000th. And if they someday get 20,000 — it’s hard to say how many emails might eventually show up over time — they will do it yet again.
Get your friends and family to join in.

Michelle,
I’ve noticed you have quite a rowdy bunch over here who like to YELL, BOLDLY. You might have to get Allah over here to lay down the law so they don’t make “The Boss” look bad. No, I’m more than sure you can handle it, as I have seen you crack a few knuckles with that ruler in past posts. Good luck, I love the new look and comment section.

Wow, I missed this the first time. What a great cause and cool way for the troops to say “thanks” back! I want one of those flags.
Thanks for letting us know, MM!
Ooops, Marines, not troops, sorry.
Unfortunately 90% of those emails were porn spam.
Sent another one to them. Thanks for the headsup.
I really appreciate the job they are doing over there.
Is that speculation or do you have a source for that?
Michelle
Thanks for the ping as well.
Just so everyone knows, these e-mails are not sitting idly by in the inbox. We have begun the process of distributing the e-mails to troops. Tomorrow we will be delivering huge stacks to both 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, and 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment (US Army).
Though deployed troops tend to be a cynical, jaded lot, I have gotten a lot of nodding heads and “Oh, cool” from people who have taken the time to read.
I wish I could say everyone who writes will get a response but that probably just will not happen. Take comfort in the fact that the effort a lot of you put into your e-mails (some were 500+ words) is going appreciated.
And no, nowhere even close to 90% is porn spam. Actually, we haven’t gotten a single piece of porn spam. Maybe 20-30 pieces of European lottery spam and displaced African royalty trying to secure their riches.
I sent my e-mail to RTC-6 earlier this week. I am considering having my kids write their own. They hold soldiers in awe and would love to write. I hesitate only because to start hearing from kids may make RTC-6 miss their own kids even more. I am open to counsel on this.
My counsel is go ahead, badger.
Thanks, Michelle, for the reminder. It’s an honor.
Thank you Michelle for letting us know about this. I sent a letter and am very glad to have the opportunity to let our troops know how proud we are of them and that we support them. God bless them all.
Cool.. I want that flag.
I found this at the Corner on NRO, and thought some of the troops might get a kick out of it:
and this one is good too:
some things never change……
Thanks Michelle, I was glad for the opportunity – and passed the links on
