Rushdie Rage: Still burning!
If it’s Friday in Pakistan, it’s flag-burnin’ and effigy-hangin’ time. Today, imams will be inveighing against Salman Rushdie, Britain, and the West’s incorrigible infidels. I know: When are they not? Here’s my column on Rushdie Rage from earlier this week. The conclusion:
The deaf and blind will dismiss this latest episode of manufactured Muslim outrage as a marginal outburst. But Rushdie, the target of death threats dating back to 1988 over his book “The Satanic Verses,” has seen enough performances of Jihad Theater to take proper precautions. He has requested police protection after an Iranian group put a $150,000 bounty on his head. Forouz Raja’ee-Far, secretary general of the Headquarters for Honoring the Martyrs of Islam World Movement, offered the prize because, after all, “it is an obligation for all Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie even if he repents from the bottom of his heart and becomes the pious man of the time.”
What does the Council on American-Islamic Relations have to say? Their website has a special “incitement watch” and “action alerts” section for its (dwindling number of) members — but as of Tuesday afternoon, not a peep about the incitement of hatred and violence against Rushdie. They’ll eventually pay lip service to The Religion of Peace, but do not forget Rule No. 5 in the jihadi’s guide to etiquette: “You can lie if you do this for jihad.”
Pakistani government officials are bleating about the need for “interfaith understanding” and sensitivity. In Washington for meetings with the Bush administration, Pakistan’s foreign minister Khurshid Kasuri cooed: “When we talk of a globalized world, we have to be sensitive to each other’s concerns.”
As anyone with their eyes open through Rushdie’s ordeal, the deadly Mohammed cartoons riots, the calls for beheading the Pope, Oriana Fallaci, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and defiant, ex-Muslim apostates around the world knows: “Sensitivity” in the jihadi world is a one-way, dead-end street.
Former Pakistan PM Benazir Bhutto bravely sticks her neck out for Rushdie. Meanwhile, British Muslims are joining the global jihad against the Queen for knighting Rushdie:
Muslims angered by Britain’s decision to honor author Salman Rushdie with a knighthood were rallying in London Friday, warning anger over the award could match the fierce reaction to publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in Denmark in 2006.
Organizers of a protest outside Regent’s Park Mosque, London, claimed several hundred demonstrators planned to denounce the decision to reward Rushdie, whose novel “The Satanic Verses” led to a death threat from Iran in 1989.
“This knighthood is just another example of Tony Blair and his government’s attempts to secularize Muslims and reward apostates,” said Anjem Choudray, protest organizer and an ex-head of the British wing of the banned radical group al-Muhajiroun.
“Rushdie is a hate figure across the Muslim world because of his insults to Islam,” Choudray said. “This honor will have ramifications here and across the world” just as with the protests over the Danish cartoon.
Snapped Shot has more photos of the simmering conflagration. Here’s my favorite expression of aggrievement. Break out your Kleenex:
More updates throughout the day. Those of you familiar with the professional protesters who came out for the Danish cartoon riots may remember Islamic Rage Boy:
Well, he’s baaack.
Allah takes a closer look at the Rushdie Rage gallery.

Bless Benazir Bhutto’s heart — and her security detail! Why aren’t there more leaders like her? She wasnt’ perfect, but she wasn’t fascist.
There is no cure for the hatred, ignorance and cowardice like the brand that’s on display here.
Salman hurt my feelings…waaaaaaaaa
Everytime I see something like this it reminds me of my 4 year old nephew having a hissy fit.
So Hissy Fit Friday it is!
Heh,
The sign has mis-spelled words, and bad grammar.
Not just lunatics, illiterate lunatics.
Another example of the large, gaping difference between the Religion of Peace and those of us who believe otherwise. If those of us who have a Judeo-Christian value set were into beheading those who disagreed, there would not be anyone left in that part of the world.
Don’t hurt the feeling of Americans by BEHEADING OUR KIDS ON AL-JAZEERA!
I recently had a ‘discussion’ regarding Muslim ‘honesty and fairness’. I referred her to your column. she refuses to look at it, citing Bush as the example that causes the world problems. Doesn’t seem to matter whether it is Muslim or Liberal issues. Blindness to truth is a terrible desease.
I am perpetually outraged!!!!
snarf…snarf…
How do I get the flag and effigy concession in Kabul?
Don’t these people have jobs?
How about the British government round these folks up and deport them to Pakistan? Salman becomes Sir Salman, law abiding Brits get their country back and the muslims get to move back to the 7th century where they can seethe and whine as much as they want. Win, Win, Win.
The religion of peace in action again…
only 150k for salman’s head…….would have been more with a fatwa!!!
Has the British government come out with any stronger responses since the initial post on this?
I’ve always wondered what the reaction would be if Brits or Americans held a similar type protest burning Pakistani flags outside the embassy.
Whatever, the Queen Knights the Author of a lousy unreadable book, which never would of been read except for the controversy surrounding it; and the Pakistanis honor a mass murder and terrorist in response.
Rushdie = Osama
Moral Equivalence I’m sure.
What kind of response would we get if we responded to every muslim act of terror with an effigy burning of mohammed? Or possibly set a mosque on fire?
First off we’d all be arrested for hate speech.
For a religion which so freely and venomously insults and attacks other religions, it is contemptible for the arrogant and supremacist Muslims to demand we respect their feelings. And we should never concede an inch of our freedom of speech to the Muslim barbarians.
*yawn*…what, the muslims are inflamed…again? Shoot…me thinks all they need is a few cases of Preparation H and a few million chill pills.
Uncontrollable rage cannot be good for you…think of all that hypertension!
Let’s see today is Friday. The normal day that muslims gather in their indoctination centers and get their orders and updated seething talking points from their pedophile worshipping leaders. The more adept i”m a mommas boy will also have the appropiate flags and protest signs along with some cans of gasoline and matches to hand out to the audience.
Friday should just be officially named “The Muslim Day of Seething”.
I really don’t know what is worse, the NAACP or the Council on American-Islamic Relations. I think I would have to give it to the Council on American-Islamic Relations. At least the NAACP has spoken out against the 9/11 hijackers.
I’m curious where these flags come from – The Karachi Foreign Flag store? What if I wanted to burn a Pakistani flag – where the heck would I find one? Just askin’
Enough of this pandering to third worlders. One can only hope that Western leaders will some day tell them to stuff it.
Ya know, to be The Religion of Peace, those guys get pissed off pretty easily…
You can get almost any flag imaginable from this store in Colorado.

Thanks for the link bpcomplainer – works ok for me, but I doubt if many of these camel lovin’ bearded wonders have internet service!
How long until we see these kind of protests directed at Christopher Hitchens for his new book, “God is not Great”? He’ll probably be next on the death fatwa list. How dare these authors hurt the poor Muslims’ feelings. *sniffle*
Isn’t this in part encouraged by the whole British sailor thing? England has rolled over for Islamists for years, but that sorry episode “proved” to Muslims that the English will not fight them even if pushed to.
Had the British sank a few Iranian boats and deported everyone who ever blurted out praise for Jihad, I’d bet these protests would be much more subdued.
I’m sure you are correct! I picked a stateside store for those of us who’d like to do our own Pakistani flag-burning demonstration on Fridays.
We can also all get our Union Jacks there should Britain strongly speak out and tell the radicals NO!
Londonistan just went to the top of the list for the next attacks.
Soo much time, so little to do. Such is Life in Islamic countries.
Every time I see one o these crowds, it makes me wonder if they deliberately take all the ugly ones and put them in front, or are all Pakistani men this fugly?
If the brits back down which I suspect they will do, one can only imagine what they will have brought on themselves.
muslims complaining about hurt feelings and sensitivity of other religions is laughable, considering all the anti-jewish, anti-christian propaganda and books put out DAILY in the muslim world and even in western mosques. Can they really not see the unfathomable depths of their own hypocrisy? Unreal.
If they are really concerned about calling him “Sir,” then the Queen should capitulate and make him a Lord.
The Queen, having poked her Royal finger into the Islamic eye, should now twist her digit by issuing a statement quoting Churchill’s critique of “Mohammedanism”.
As well as arson, or possibly murder, and rightly so.
Use your head. Muslims who burn and destroy and riot in response to whatever has offended them are little better than animals.
Americans, despite what so many of my unenlightened Canadian countrymen say, are not animals. Responding to the hysterical overreaction of radical Muslims with hysterical overreaction is not rational, and in fact counterproductive. America, and the West it leads, is better than that.
Radical Islam must be dealt with, harshly and unequivocally; but mindlessly lashing out and burning down mosques and effigies of Mohammed would not solve the problem, satisfying though it may be on a gut level.
That would play directly into the hands of Islamic animals, in the same way that Hizbollah manufactured outrage against Israel by firing at them from hospitals and schoolyards, drawing fire that they knew would kill their own children.
Target their money, and its sources; shine light on them, as does Michelle and her brave co-bloggers; and, perhaps most importantly, distinguish between decent, reasonable Muslims and the vindictive, evil, radical fascists. Isolate the latter and THEN destroy them.
That is difficult, because the reality is that Islam creates an environment in which evil can easily flourish. I do not for a moment subscribe to the notion that Islam is a “religion of peace.”
“It is not enough to do your best; you must know what to do, and do that.” — Churchill
(cont’d.) (The comment text box disappeared for some reason and I wasn’t able to complete my 2nd last paragraph.)
That is difficult, because the reality is that Islam creates an environment in which evil can easily flourish. I do not for a moment subscribe to the notion that Islam is a “religion of peace.”
However, a disaffected Muslim is not the same as a radical, violent jihadist, and the latter is a real threat. Burning down the former’s mosque simply creates more of the latter.
Heh…maybe they should just get some spelling classes before trying to communicate…There are sufficient translators out there willing to sel their services.
Heh…misspelled “sell”…sorry about that…
They burned an U.S. flag because the Queen of England is knighting Salman Rushdie? They think the U.S. is still a subject country of England?!? Yeesh, where is Miss Teen USA? we need an intervention for history!
