@sausage: Sometimes tough methods are necessary to extract information from enemy operatives. Giving them milk and cookies will only get you so far. Nothing the British or the American troops do is on the same level as what these Muslim terrorists are doing. To claim that they are similar is a case of moral equivalency. Nevertheless, the coalition troops are held to a higher moral standard.

Name me the last time coalition forces broadcast a video of a prisoner being beheaded? Of a prisoner strapped with a bomb to his chest? All the so-called "torture" tactics employed by the coalition forces would be considered laughable 20 years ago.

Do you think the New York Times will cover this story of an abused prisoner on the front page dozens of times? Of course not.

And it isn't this something of a metaphor for the BBC in general that its reporter is held captive in a bomb belt to spout propaganda?

So - we have a captive individual, being forced to wear an explosive device....

Where is the outrage from all the groups calling for the closing of Abu Gharaib & Guantanamo? Where are all the human rights groups who decry the mistreatment of prisoners ( when the U.S. is holding them, of course )?

The silence is deafening.

Sausage, I do believe those in the field should be able to use force to obtain information from enemy combatants. The lefties want to tie the hands of those responsible for interrogation, but then they complain when we can't be kept safe. In this case, a bbc journalist is being tortured and exploited. I don't recall any episodes of the U.S. government treating an Al-Jezera "journalist" like this. No we try to obtain intelligence from those who would try and kill us or decapitate us.

When islamic thug cowards hide behind civilians, everything is off the table, whether the host country is a signatory or not.

Then we act no better than them and can be classed as terrorists by these thugs too.

Where is the outrage by the "blame America" crowd at this example of a horrendous human rights violation?

tniles - that is the point of this War Against Terror, surely? "We" should always act above and beyond the law and not stoop to such horrible levels like these barbarians.

Very sad to see the BBC guy like this and the nightmare it must be bringing to his family.

The left only get riled if US held prisoners are made to wear women's underwear on their heads. We are the global standard for debauchery and abuse in the warped minds of today's progressive tin-foilies.

I wonder if the moonbats who complain so much about the mistreatment of those being held by the US will have any comment about the treatment of this guy. I too like jimyai am skeptical of this situation, but putting skepticism aside, if it is real I would say this is far worse than any psychological treatment our detainees have received. I wonder if strapping explosives to an individual for psychological abuse falls under the Geneva Convention. Oh, I forgot that only applies to the U.S. All of our enemies are free to do as they please, especially when they represent the "religion of peace".

Because the "reporter" is from the bbc, I won't be surprised to learn that his kidnapping and the wearing of the suicide belt are staged by the reporter with the help of the jihadis to gain support for the bbc and/or the terrorists
