Democrat AG will prosecute notorious abortionist

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 28, 2007 03:51 PM

Abortionist George Tiller will be charged in Kansas by the Democrat Attorney General:

A doctor who performs abortions was charged Thursday with violating Kansas law on late-term procedures, a surprise move from a Democratic attorney general who recently unseated a prominent anti-abortion Republican.

Attorney General Paul Morrison filed 19 misdemeanor counts alleging that Dr. George Tiller, one of the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortions, got second opinions from a doctor who was not financially and legally independent from him, as the law requires. Morrison’s predecessor, Phill Kline, had unsuccessfully prosecuted the same doctor for different reasons.

At a news conference Thursday, Morrison described the allegations as a “technical violation” of a 1998 law restricting late-term procedures. “And it’s my job to enforce the law,” he said.

Man, if only our Department of Homeland Security chief had that attitude.

The pro-abortion Morrison had defeated anti-abortion AG Phill Kline in last year’s general election The Topeka Capital-Journal reports:

Morrison’s announcement today was a surprise. A day earlier, his spokeswoman had confirmed that Morrison, an abortion-rights Democrat, wouldn’t pursue 15 reporting-related charges Kline had filed. Also, abortion opponents had said repeatedly that they didn’t think he would prosecute Tiller and had tried to build public pressure on Morrison to refile Kline’s case.

Morrison said today that Kline’s charges were “incorrect and based on a political agenda,” and insisted that his own case “was not about politics or pursuing a personal agenda.”

“During our review of Kline’s 30 mistaken charges, we found a pattern — a pattern of referrals from one physician,” he said.

The abortions in question involved cases in which patients were more than 21 weeks pregnant and the fetuses were able to survive outside the womb. Under such circumstances, Kansas law requires two doctors to conclude that if the pregnancy continues, a mother-to-be will face death or “substantial and irreversible” harm to “a major bodily function,” which has been interpreted to include mental health.

According to Morrison, Tiller listed the second doctor as Ann Kristin Neuhaus, who was included on Kline’s list of potential witnesses in his criminal case.

Life News has more on other charges Morrison dropped against Planned Parenthood and Tiller.

Kline lost his office precisely because he want after this doctor. The liberals hoped that by replacing him with a democrat, the doctor and others like him wouldn’t ever again be “harrassed” with criminal charges.

They were wrong. This is one Democrat who actually supports the rule of law.

I’ll be talking to my grandfolks, and making sure they vote for this guy next time around.

The only reason he’s prosecuting is because of all the bad publicity he’s gotten for not prosecuting! If he could’ve buried these charges and gotten away with it he would have…

Samiam’s exactly right…I’m from Kansas and I remember exactly what this liar said about the murderer when he was running against Kline.

Yeah he’s going after him…with the minimum he can…so what, a broken clock is right twice a day.

He needs to be removed from office at the next election!

I never understood the difference between a partial birth abortion and discarding and infant shortly after birth. Even though the charges are misdemeanors, I hope this starts the beginning of the end of this horrible procedure.

These comments are proof that conservatives are rational and operate on principal rather than emotion. Here we have a lib AG who upholds the rule of law regardless of how he feels and conservatives support him. On the other side you have libs who only want to find fault with whatever the opposition does, even when it might be something they agree with. Libs operate off spin and emotion while conservatives use principle and rational thought.

Once in awhile we find a Democrat that can actually think straight. I hope this AG sends Tiller away for a long time. He is a murderer in all sense of the terms.

I am glad to see this. You know, I believe that Tiller will get his after death but it’s great to see the Rule of Law being enforced. To echo others, wouldn’t it be nice if Chertoff could learn from this guy?

Don’t get too excited about AG Morrison. He had been a Republican DA, then switched to the Demoncrat party just to run against Phill Kline. Kline had 30 charges against Tiller, but Morrison threw them all out, then brought in 19 of his own. IMHO he was merely throwing a sop to the pro-life voters in Kansas. There is bad blood between the two. I don’t trust Morrison’s motives, and even if Tiller is convicted I doubt that he will serve the up-to one year of jail time he could serve. He will probably end up paying a fine, which wouldn’t hurt him financially at all since he’s loaded with all the blood money gleaned from his evil trade.

I appreciate the focus O’Reilly has given to this sick man, however.

Oddly enough, he’s been listed as a “family practice” doctor. Ironic, isn’t it?
